Job description

The Specialist, Email Marketing is responsible for coordinating the development, execution, and optimization of email marketing communications that support Holland America Line and Seabourn business objectives. This role leads the execution of promotional, lifecycle, and transactional email campaigns, ensuring accuracy, brand consistency, and timely delivery across all communications. The Specialist partners closely with Pricing, Demand, Creative, and Marketing teams to translate campaign inputs into effective email and landing page experiences. Using data and performance metrics, this role supports ongoing program optimization through testing, measurement, and audience targeting insights. The position plays a key role in maintaining and enhancing email programs within the Seabourn and Holland America Line CRM and email service provider platforms. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical and organizational skills, along with hands-on experience building and deploying emails using HTML and email marketing tools. This role requires attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and a strong understanding of email marketing best practices in a fastpaced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Email Campaign Execution & Delivery: Responsible for the endtoend execution of promotional, lifecycle, and transactional email campaigns across Holland America Line and Seabourn. Translates approved campaign inputs into fully built email and landing page assets within CRM and email service provider platforms. Ensures all emails are accurately set up, tested, and deployed according to campaign requirements and production timelines. Manages email builds including audience versioning, dynamic content application, and deployment logic. Confirms readiness for launch by validating creative, content, links, and targeting prior to deployment. Coordinates final launch activities to ensure ontime delivery. Supports multiple concurrent campaigns while maintaining attention to detail and executional consistency. 
  • CrossFunctional Coordination & Project Management: Partners closely with Pricing, Demand, Creative, and Marketing stakeholders to gather inputs required for email communications. Coordinates project timelines, milestones, and deliverables to ensure alignment with broader marketing calendars. Compiles stakeholder inputs into formats suitable for internal teams or external vendors, ensuring clarity and completeness. Maintains project schedules, status updates, and documentation to support transparency and accountability. Facilitates review and approval workflows, ensuring required signoffs are obtained prior to execution. Manages daytoday communication related to assigned email initiatives. Proactively identifies and resolves execution risks related to timing, inputs, or dependencies.
  • Quality Assurance & Brand Compliance: Ensures all email communications meet brand standards, visual guidelines, and content accuracy requirements. Conducts thorough quality control reviews of email and landing page content, including links, subject lines, formatting, and personalization logic. Verifies audience targeting and versioning to ensure correct delivery to intended recipients. Reviews copy for clarity, consistency, and alignment with approved messaging. Confirms that final assets reflect approved inputs and adhere to established specifications. Documents and resolves errors identified during testing cycles. Maintains a high standard of execution to protect brand integrity and customer experience.
  • Program Maintenance, Tools & Vendor Support: Manages daytoday maintenance of established email programs. Supports updates to existing programs to reflect changing business needs, messaging, or targeting requirements. Utilizes HTML and basic image editing skills to create or modify email assets as needed. Coordinates with external vendors to obtain project estimates and supports internal approval of associated costs. Tracks expenses and updates budget reporting mechanisms in alignment with approved spend. Maintains organized records of files, assets, and program documentation. Ensures tools, templates, and processes are used consistently and effectively.

  • Scope: The Specialist, Email Marketing operates within the Lifecycle Marketing organization and supports both Holland America Line and Seabourn. The role focuses on the execution and optimization of email communications that support marketing and revenue objectives across brands. Responsibilities primarily impact shoreside marketing teams while influencing guestfacing communications at scale. The role supports multiple campaign types, including promotional, lifecycle, and transactional communications. Work is performed in close coordination with crossfunctional partners but does not include direct people management. The Specialist is responsible for executing within established strategies, frameworks, and brand guidelines. Decisions are typically related to execution readiness, sequencing, and optimization within defined parameters. This role contributes to consistent, highquality email communications across the organization.
  • Problem solving: This role requires the ability to resolve executionlevel challenges within a fastpaced marketing environment. Problems often involve incomplete inputs, competing priorities, tight deadlines, or data inconsistencies. The Specialist is expected to assess information from multiple stakeholders and determine the appropriate path forward within established guidelines. The role requires attention to detail when identifying errors or risks prior to deployment. Problem solving may involve analyzing performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement or testing. The Specialist anticipates potential issues related to audience targeting, timing, or content accuracy. Solutions are typically developed independently and validated with leadership when required. Issues are resolved with minimal escalation while maintaining quality and timelines.
  • Impact: The Specialist, Email Marketing directly impacts the effectiveness and consistency of guest communications across key stages of the customer journey. The role contributes to marketing performance by ensuring emails are executed accurately and aligned with business objectives. Through testing and optimization support, the role helps improve engagement and conversion outcomes over time. The position supports the scalability and reliability of automated and recurring email programs. While the role does not set overall strategy, it plays an important role in executing strategies that drive revenue and brand engagement. Errors or delays at this level can affect customer experience and campaign performance. Highquality execution supports trust in the email channel as a core marketing discipline. The role contributes to disciplined, datainformed marketing operations.
  • Leadership: This role does not have direct reports but requires strong executional leadership and accountability. The Specialist leads assigned email initiatives through coordination and followthrough rather than formal authority. The role influences outcomes by managing workflows, timelines, and dependencies across teams. Effective communication and collaboration are required to keep projects moving forward. The Specialist demonstrates ownership of assigned programs and holds self and partners accountable to deadlines and quality standards. Leadership is shown through reliability, attention to detail, and proactive issue identification. The role supports leadership by providing accurate execution and performance insights. Requirements 

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of handson experience managing email marketing programs within an inhouse marketing team or agency environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using email service provider (ESP) and customer relationship management (CRM) platforms to build, test, and deploy email campaigns.
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS as applied to email design and modification.
  • Proficiency with standard business and marketing tools, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to analyze email performance metrics and apply insights to campaign execution and optimization.
  • Experience executing endtoend email campaigns, including setup, testing, deployment, and postcampaign review across multiple campaign types.
  • Experience partnering with crossfunctional stakeholders to gather inputs and translate requirements into executed email communications.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fastpaced, deadlinedriven environment.
  • Experience performing quality assurance on digital communications, including content accuracy, links, targeting, and formatting.
  • Experience supporting testing strategies such as A/B testing, audience segmentation, or creative variation.
  • Experience maintaining automated or recurring email programs within established marketing frameworks.

Travel: Less than 25% with shipboard travel likely

Work Conditions: Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.

Physical Demands: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.

This position is classified as "in-office."  As an in-office role, it requires employees to work from the Holland America Line office in Seattle, WA Monday through Thursday each week.

  • Base Salary Range: $59,200 to $79,900 The range is applicable for the labor market where the role is intended to be hired. Final base salary is directly related to each candidate's qualifications and experience uniquely.
