Elixir Engineer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Elixir Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Elixir Engineer, you need strong programming skills in Elixir and the Erlang/OTP ecosystem, along with a solid understanding of functional programming principles and concurrent system design. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, experience with Phoenix Framework, and knowledge of deployment tools such as Docker are typically required. Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills help you work effectively within development teams and address complex technical challenges. These skills and qualities are essential for building scalable, reliable, and maintainable applications in fast-paced software environments.

What is the difference between Elixir Engineer vs Ruby Developer?

Common Search IntentElixir Engineer vs Ruby Developer

Elixir Engineers and Ruby Developers often share similar credentials and work environments, but they focus on different programming languages and application types. Elixir Engineers specialize in scalable, real-time systems using Elixir, while Ruby Developers typically work on web applications with Ruby on Rails. Both roles are vital in modern software development, but their industry applications and technical focuses differ.

What is an Elixir Engineer?

An Elixir Engineer is a software developer who specializes in building and maintaining applications using the Elixir programming language. Elixir is known for its concurrency, scalability, and fault-tolerance, making it a popular choice for real-time web applications, distributed systems, and backend services. Elixir Engineers often work with the Phoenix framework and are responsible for designing, developing, testing, and deploying high-performance applications. They may also optimize existing code, ensure system reliability, and collaborate with teams to implement best practices.

How does an Elixir Engineer typically collaborate with other team members in a software development environment?

As an Elixir Engineer, you will often work closely with backend and frontend developers, DevOps engineers, and product managers to design and deliver scalable applications. Collaboration is usually facilitated through regular stand-up meetings, code reviews, and pair programming sessions, especially when integrating Elixir services with other parts of a system. You may also be responsible for writing technical documentation and assisting in onboarding team members less familiar with Elixir. Open communication and a willingness to share knowledge are key, as Elixir teams often prioritize code quality and functional programming best practices.

Job description

Octagon Talent Solutions is a full-service technology recruitment and staffing company based in South Florida. We humanize technical recruitment by identifying candidates' long-term career goals and assessing cultural fit when presenting opportunities. Our focus on long-term relationships helps ensure placements that last.

Our client is a well-funded Web3 fintech startup redefining the future of real-time financial infrastructure. Our platform bridges traditional finance and decentralized systems, enabling seamless, secure, and transparent access to blockchain-powered financial services.

Theyโ€™re not just building APIs โ€” theyโ€™re creating the data rails for the decentralized economy, supporting everything from real-time transaction monitoring to decentralized asset management. With deep backing from top VCs and a founding team of fintech and blockchain veterans, weโ€™re scaling fast โ€” and weโ€™re looking for core engineers to shape what comes next.

???? What Youโ€™ll Do

  • Architect, develop, and maintain real-time APIs and backend systems powering crypto trading, DeFi analytics, and digital asset tracking.
  • Build scalable microservices with NestJS and gRPC, and design APIs used by developers, trading platforms, and financial institutions.
  • Manage streaming pipelines with Kafka to process high-throughput event data from blockchains and financial markets.
  • Implement WebSocket-based services using Bun to push live updates (price feeds, wallet events, smart contract logs).
  • Store and optimize time-series data using QuestDB for hot access and ClickHouse for long-term analytics and compliance reporting.
  • Secure and orchestrate APIs through APISIX, with features like rate limiting, authentication, and request transformation.
  • Contribute to infrastructure scalability, observability, and resilience in a mission-critical, high-uptime environment.
  • Collaborate with smart contract developers, frontend engineers, and data scientists to ship features end-to-end.

???? The Tech Stack

Youโ€™ll be working with bleeding-edge tools purpose-built for real-time finance:

  • NestJS โ€“ Modular TypeScript backend framework
  • gRPC + Protobuf โ€“ Blazing fast internal service communication
  • Kafka โ€“ Event streaming for blockchain and financial data ingestion
  • Bun โ€“ Ultra-fast runtime for high-frequency WebSocket communication
  • QuestDB โ€“ Low-latency time-series database for recent data
  • ClickHouse โ€“ Scalable analytics database for long-term storage
  • APISIX โ€“ Cloud-native API Gateway

???? What Weโ€™re Looking For

  • 5+ years in backend engineering, ideally with a focus on financial systems or high-throughput platforms
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js, and frameworks like NestJS
  • Experience with event-driven architecture and tools like Kafka
  • Comfort working with gRPC, Protocol Buffers, and microservices
  • Knowledge of blockchain fundamentals, smart contracts, or Web3 APIs (e.g., Ethers.js, Web3.js) is a big plus
  • Solid experience with WebSockets and real-time messaging systems
  • Proven ability to design and optimize time-series data solutions
  • Familiarity with cloud-native infrastructure (Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines)
  • Security-first mindset โ€” especially around financial and cryptographic systems
  • Self-starter attitude, with the ability to thrive in a fast-moving startup environment

???? What They Offer

  • Top-of-market salary + possible equity + crypto bonuses
  • Remote-first, async-friendly culture with flexible hours
  • The chance to work on the cutting edge of finance and Web3
  • A technical leadership role with influence over architecture and roadmap
  • Collaborative, transparent team culture with real ownership

???? Join the Future of Finance

If youโ€™re passionate about building real-time, decentralized financial infrastructure with an elite engineering team, weโ€™d love to meet you.

To apply, please share your portfolio, GitHub profile, or examples of past work โ€” particularly real-time applications, dashboards, or security/finance-related projects.
