Metal Finishing Plater (Line Operator) Chicago, Temp-to-hire position


Our client, a leading provider of electroless nickel plating solutions with over 120 years of industry experience is seeking an experienced Metal Finishing Plater.   The Metal Finishing Plater sets up and operates manual or automated barrel and rack electroplating lines. They apply precise coatings of copper, nickel, silver, tin, or electroless nickel onto customer-owned metal substrates. Following strict AS9100D / ISO 9001 guidelines, they ensure proper thickness, adhesion, and appearance while strictly adhering to safety and environmental mandates.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Line Setup & Operation: Rack parts or load barrels. Run components through sequential chemical baths including cleaners, acids, plating solutions, and rinses.
  • Parameter Monitoring: Monitor and adjust tank temperatures, rectifiers (voltage/amperage), and immersion times based on job traveler specifications.
  • Quality Inspections: Visually inspect finished parts for defects like blistering, burning, or bare spots. Use micrometers or thickness gauges to verify plating layers meet customer purchase orders.
  • ISO/AS9100 Documentation: Complete manufacturing route sheets, log tank readings, and record accurate production data to ensure total lot traceability.
  • Chemical Safety: Safely handle industrial acids and plating solutions while wearing mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including respirators, aprons, and face shields.

 

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: 1–3 years of electroplating or metal finishing experience (rack or barrel).
  • Skills: Strong basic math skills (calculating square footage and current density). Ability to read blueprints and complex manufacturing routing sheets.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to work in a hot, humid industrial environment. Must stand for long periods and lift up to 40 lbs. regularly.
