A Brief Overview
The Clinical Engineering Technician III is a senior-level biomedical equipment technician responsible for independently performing preventive maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of complex medical equipment and systems. In addition to technical duties, the Technician III supports the Director of Clinical Engineering by assisting with equipment documentation, regulatory compliance activities, and reporting requirements. This role plays a critical part in ensuring compliance with Joint Commission, NFPA 99, CMS, and hospital policies, while maintaining safe and reliable medical equipment to support patient care.
What you will do
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all medical equipment within the hospital using standard procedures.
  • Troubleshoot a wide range of complex medical equipment.
  • Diagnose equipment problems on the units using prior experience and knowledge of equipment operation.
  • Provide formal and informal educational information to physicians, nurses and ancillary personnel, as needed.
  • Operate a wide array of complex test instruments.
  • Maintain legible and complete records of all work assignments.
  • Demonstrates ability to accurately research and order parts while maintaining an inventory of parts.
  • Interpret equipment service manuals and instruct staff on proper repair and preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Interrupt and apply regulatory agencies codes and procedures. ( JACHO, FDA, DOH, NFPA)
  • Stay current on technological advances and assist in up-grading procedures and methods, where indicated.
  • Assumes responsibility for on-going education based on individual identified needs.
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize, establish and deal with priorities promptly.
  • Informs Director of events and issues impacting the department and staff.
  • Maintains the department in a neat, clean, and orderly manner.
  • Observes and enforce hospital policies concerning smoking restrictions, telephone usage, infection control, hazardous material handling, and other related rules governing conduct while at work.
  • Appears well-groomed and observes hospital dress code; wears identification badge while on duty and maintains a professional appearance.
  • Perform other related duties, as requested by hospital management.

Education Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree Biomedical Engineering Technology, Electronic Technology or similar field of study Required or
  • equivalent experience Required

Experience Qualifications
  • 5+ of progressively responsible experience in Biomedical/Clinical Engineering within a hospital or
    healthcare environment required
  • Experience servicing high-risk medical equipment required
  • Experience supporting Mindray patient monitoring and
    telemetry systems preferred
  • Experience servicing Mindray anesthesia machine systems preferred
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing Dragger
    ventilators preferred
  • Experience with networked medical devices and clinical
    systems integration preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills in order to work well with others
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple assignments in a
    hospital environment Medium
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA 99, Joint Commission, CMS, and hospital
    regulatory compliance. Medium
