Where the mighty Kennebec River spills out of the Moosehead Lake and roils through a logging and sporting empire, the terrain still bears a rugged look. This territory belongs to the loon, the bear, and most of all, the lordly moose. Chelsea resides in the spectacular Kennebec River Valley. The physical beauty and outdoor adventure of the region will stretch your imagination, heighten your senses and create memories that will last a lifetime. Visitors and residents have access the the peaks of the Appalachian Trail, the spray of Moxie Falls, and the highest groomed snowmobile trail in all of Maine. Four nationally designated scenic byways in the state include the nearby Old Canada Road. Population - 25,000 THE TONGUS VAMC The Togus VAMC is a 67-operating bed facility with general medical, surgical, intermediate and mental health beds, as well as a 100-bed Nursing Home consisting of 50 Skilled and Longer Stay beds, and a 50-bed Dementia Unit. The oldest veterans' facility in the country, having opened in the fall of 1866, Togus is located approximately four miles east of Augusta, the state capital. The Togus campus encompasses 500+ acres of buildings and natural woodlands serving as natural habitats for some of Maine's wildlife. Overview The cardiologist will provide the following services for general cardiology: Cardiology outpatient clinics, supervise APCs and cardiology fellows in clinic, do inpatient cardiology consults, and attend on the inpatient cardiology service.. A portion of the time will be spent doing inpatient consults and rounding daily on cardiology patients.

Basic Responsibilities:
  • Work with the following staff:Cardiology Nurse Practitioners, Cardiology Physician Assistants, ED physicians, Hospitalists, inpatient residents, medical officer of the day (MODs), medical specialist, surgical specialist for cardiology inpatient consults.
  • Ensure proper communication with the Primary Care and specialty physicians including cardiology inpatient/outpatient consults.
  • Document progress notes, procedure notes, orders, encounters and orders are within the electronic medical record per SLCHCS rules and regulations within 48 hours of the date of the encounter.
  • Follow current directives, handbooks, and other policies for the facility.
  • Meet requirements for documentation for third party billing.
  • Ensure smooth and timely patient flow for cardiology patients both inpatient/outpatient.
  • Comply with all of The Joint Commission National Center for Patient Safety goals and accreditation standards.
Qualifications:
  • The cardiologist shall possess full and unrestricted license and/or certification in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.
  • The cardiologist shall be board certified or board eligible.
  • The cardiologist must possess basic proficiency in spoken and written English in accordance with public law 95-201.
  • The cardiologist must have their own assigned DEA number.
