Job description

Job Title:Summer 2027 Intern - Construction Application Development LabSummary:The Application Development Lab Intern will support the Technical and Commercial teams by assisting in the testing and evaluation of construction materials, including sealants, coatings, and adhesives. This internship provides hands-on experience in a laboratory environment, helping to assess new products and improve existing solutions that serve the building and construction industry. The intern will gain exposure to technical problem-solving, materials characterization, building product performance testing, and application development while contributing to real-world customer and innovation projects.
Students pursuing degrees in Architectural Engineering, Building Engineering, Construction Engineering, or related programs focused on commercial buildings and building systems will be particularly well-suited for this opportunity, as they can apply their understanding of building envelope performance, construction materials, and building design principles in a practical, industry-focused setting.Responsibilities Include:
  • Prepare and mix material samples according to test specifications and standard operating procedures.

  • Conduct physical, chemical, and mechanical performance testing on products (e.g., adhesion, hardness, viscosity, tensile strength, UV/weathering).

  • Record, organize, and analyze test results with high attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Maintain lab equipment and ensure cleanliness, calibration, and safety compliance.

  • Support scale-up or pilot testing efforts as directed by senior chemists or engineers.

  • Assist in drafting technical reports, test summaries, and data presentations.

  • Participate in project meetings and collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, product management, and technical service.

  • Help improve lab workflows, material inventory, and data management processes.

Qualifications:

  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accurate and complete documentation.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Basic knowledge of lab safety and chemical handling procedures.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and data organization tools.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

  • Willingness to learn and take initiative.

Program Minimum Qualifications:

  • The candidate must be actively enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of application and for at least one semester following the conclusion of the internship.

  • The candidate is expected to be available 40 hours a week for a period of 10-12 weeks between the months of May and August.

Education Requirement:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.

  • Completion of at least one prior laboratory course (academic or industry-based).
