Job description

Job Description: Hardware Designer with Field Issue Troubleshooting
Location:
 Philadelphia, PA - Onsite

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Hardware Designer who not only designs robust electronic systems but also excels atfield failure analysis and troubleshooting. This role requires hands-on debugging of customer-reported issues, root-cause analysis, and driving corrective actions across design, manufacturing, and quality teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop analog, digital, and mixed-signal hardware circuits
  • Create schematics and support PCB design using Altium Designer
  • Lead field issue investigation, including customer returns and on-site failures
  • Perform detailed root-cause analysis (RCA) of hardware failures
  • Debug issues related to power, signal integrity, EMI/EMC, thermal, and component reliability
  • Reproduce field issues in lab environments and define corrective actions
  • Support ECOs, design fixes, and validation testing for field issues
  • Collaborate with firmware, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams
  • Analyze manufacturing and component-level failures (PCBA, soldering, aging, ESD, surge, etc.)
  • Prepare failure analysis reports and corrective/preventive action documentation.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Electronics Engineering or equivalent
  • Strong hands-on experience in hardware design using Altium Designer
  • Proven experience in field failure troubleshooting and debugging
  • Solid understanding of analog, digital, and power electronics
  • Experience with lab equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, spectrum analyzer, DMM)
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC, ESD, surge protection, and reliability concepts
  • Ability to interpret schematics, PCB layouts, and manufacturing data
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Experience supporting products in customer or field environments
  • Knowledge of DFM/DFA and manufacturing processes
  • Exposure to automotive, industrial, telecom, or consumer electronics products
