Description
Job Summary: The experienced Winding Technician will have working knowledge of electric motor repair shop services whereas the entry level candidates will be taught to prepare/strip stators and/or armatures for AC/DC electric motors and special equipment by performing the following duties.
Entry-Level Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Will be required to learn and perform our motor stripping process, which requires use of a respirator and the ability to withstand stripping room environment and temperatures.
  • Take physical measurements, electrical measurements, and verify connections of winding
  • Strip and remove windings using the Dreisilker MotorSafe method:
    • Core loss test laminations
    • Take data
    • Cut winding head precisely with abrasive saw
    • Heat windings to around 400 Fahrenheit
    • Hydraulically extract coils
    • Remove remaining insulation and insulation paper
    • Clean, scrape, sand, file and deburr lamination steel core for rewinding
  • Insert coils into lamination slots according to connection data
  • Prepare winding slot insulation by measuring, cutting, folding and creasing
  • Tape coils with insulation tape
  • Assist with dipping, trickling, vacuum pressure, and encapsulation of windings
  • Performs other routine duties as assigned and required by management.

Training and/or Experienced-Level Job Responsibilities:
  • Inspect windings and coils of electro-mechanical apparatus
  • Electrically test windings to international standards and to electrical tolerance requirements
  • Make sample coils in preparation for manufacturing of form or random wound coils
  • Manufacture coils using automatic winding, spreading, looping, and or tensioning machines
  • Insert coils into lamination slots according to connection data
  • Shape winding heads to proper dimension, tie down and/or insert blocking
  • Make electrical connections and test connections
  • Solder, braze, or weld electrical connections
  • Clean commutator risers with hand tools
  • Physically measure wire sizing and insulation sizing with micrometers
  • Assist with root-cause-failure-analysis
  • Perform basic tests on electric motors.
  • Performs service calls as requested.
  • Performs other routine duties as assigned and required by management.

Requirements
High School diploma or a general education degree (GED), with 3-5 years experience reading electrical schematics preferred. Electrical or mechanical aptitude needed.
