MARS Solutions Group is looking for an experienced Electrical Test Engineering Technician located in Milwaukee, WI. Our client is an automation industry Leader looking for high-quality talent to make a difference. They are known to respect a traditional work week and often extend contracts for added job security and stability

Overview:

The Engineering Technician reports to the Test Engineering Team Lead and works onsite in a high-current electrical test laboratory environment. This role involves hands-on work building and configuring Motor Control Centers (MCC) and switchgear test samples, as well as executing compliance testing aligned with UL and IEC standards.

You will play a key role in ensuring safe, accurate, and reliable testing by strictly following electrical safety and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures. The position also requires detailed documentation, collaboration with engineering teams, and maintaining a clean, organized, and audit-ready lab environment following 5S principles.

Responsibilities

Build and configure Motor Control Centers (MCCs) and switchgear test samples based on engineering drawings and specifications

Assemble electrical and mechanical components for both standard and custom test setups

Prepare configurations for high-current and high-power electrical testing

Conduct testing in accordance with industry standards, including:

UL 845

UL 891

IEC 61439-1

IEC 61439-2

Perform electrical tests such as:

Short circuit testing

Arc flash testing

Temperature rise testing

Dielectric (hi-pot) testing

Ensure safe operation within high-current lab environments

Document test setups, procedures, results, and observations accurately

Record test data, anomalies, and deviations in formal reports

Support compliance and traceability documentation requirements

Adhere to all electrical safety, LOTO, and laboratory safety protocols

Maintain a clean, organized, and audit-ready workspace

Apply 5S principles to lab organization and processes

Promote a strong safety culture in high-energy test environments

Collaborate with development engineers on design verification activities

Support high-current lab engineers during complex or hazardous tests

Assist in failure investigations and root cause analysis

Communicate test progress, issues, and findings clearly

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical school training (up to 1 year) or equivalent hands-on experience

Hands-on experience with:

Electrical and mechanical assembly

Power and control wiring

Test instrumentation and laboratory equipment

Ability to read and interpret:

Electrical schematics

Mechanical drawings

Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills

Understanding of:

Electrical safety practices

Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures

Safe work practices for high-energy systems

Familiarity with Six Sigma concepts and 5S principles

Preferred Qualifications

Experience testing MCCs, switchgear, or industrial power systems

Familiarity with UL and IEC compliance testing standards

Duration: 12 Months with possibility of extension
