Their role typically includes ensuring code compliance, supervising projects, and maintaining the company's licensing status. Some states require Electrical Qualifiers to be officers or full-time employees of the company.

What does an electrical qualifier do?

As an Electrical Qualifier, you are primarily responsible for overseeing electrical installations or projects to ensure all work meets local, state, and national safety codes and standards. Your tasks may include performing site inspections, conducting tests on electrical systems, reviewing and approving project documentation, and providing guidance to installation teams. You might also interact with regulatory inspectors or clients to clarify technical issues and ensure project milestones are met. This role often requires close collaboration with project managers, engineers, and electricians to resolve any compliance or technical challenges that arise.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an electrical qualifier?

To thrive as an Electrical Qualifier, you need deep knowledge of electrical codes, installation standards, and testing procedures, often backed by a relevant trade license or electrician qualification. Familiarity with tools such as multimeters, insulation resistance testers, and electrical compliance software, as well as certifications like NEC or state-specific licensure, are key. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and strong communication skills will help you excel in inspecting, documenting, and liaising with clients or regulatory bodies. These skills are essential to ensure electrical systems meet stringent safety and regulatory requirements and to maintain project quality and compliance.

Job description

The Spacecraft Electrical Engineer will lead the design, development, integration, and qualification of spacecraft power systems, avionics, and supporting electrical hardware for advanced space missions.

About Nova Solvers

Nova Solvers is an advanced engineering company developing spacecraft, avionics, sensing systems, autonomous technologies, and mission‑critical solutions for commercial, civil, defense, and national security customers. Our team specializes in transforming complex challenges into innovative, high‑performance systems that operate in the most demanding environments. We are passionate about building technologies that enable the next generation of space missions and defense capabilities.

The Role

Nova Solvers is seeking a Spacecraft Electrical Engineer to support the design, development, integration, and qualification of spacecraft electrical power systems, avionics, and supporting ground hardware. This role will contribute to the architecture, implementation, and testing of flight and ground electrical systems spanning power generation, energy storage, power conversion, distribution, protection, and control.

The ideal candidate combines strong electrical engineering fundamentals with hands‑on hardware development experience and a passion for building reliable systems that operate in demanding space environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to spacecraft Electrical Power Subsystem (EPS) architecture, including regulation, distribution, protection, and control.
  • Develop and maintain spacecraft power budgets, load analyses, and mission energy models.
  • Support definition of electrical requirements, interfaces, and Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
  • Ensure designs comply with safety, EMI/EMC, derating, and space qualification requirements.
  • Design and release power electronics including DC/DC converters, power distribution hardware, battery management systems, and supporting circuitry.
  • Design spacecraft and ground electrical hardware using Altium Designer.
  • Support development of ground electrical systems including power simulators, test racks, load banks, and support equipment.
  • Design and document high‑reliability harnesses with emphasis on manufacturability and integration.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Testability (DFT) principles.
  • Collaborate with PCB fabrication houses, contract manufacturers, and suppliers to support production and resolve technical issues.
  • Perform hardware bring‑up, validation, troubleshooting, and debugging using oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, electronic loads, and power supplies.
  • Support spacecraft integration, anomaly resolution, root‑cause investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Support environmental qualification activities including vibration, thermal vacuum, and EMI/EMC testing.
  • Work closely with firmware, software, mechanical, systems, and manufacturing teams to validate integrated hardware solutions.
  • Generate and maintain schematics, block diagrams, test procedures, verification reports, and engineering documentation.
  • Support configuration management, quality processes, and electrical design standards.
What We Look For

We are looking for engineers who take ownership, embrace challenging technical problems, and thrive in fast‑paced development environments. Successful candidates are hands‑on builders who combine analytical thinking with practical execution and enjoy working across multiple engineering disciplines to deliver mission‑critical hardware.

Minimum Qualifications
  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5–10+ years of experience designing, building, and testing spacecraft, aerospace, defense, or other high‑reliability electrical systems.
  • Experience developing electrical power systems, power electronics, or spacecraft avionics.
  • Hands‑on experience designing and releasing:
    • Battery systems
    • DC/DC converters
    • Power distribution hardware
    • Ground electrical support equipment
  • Strong proficiency with Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB development.
  • Solid understanding of:
    • Power electronics
    • Power distribution architectures
    • Battery management systems
    • Electrical integration and test
  • Experience selecting and qualifying electronic components for harsh or mission‑critical environments.
  • Strong hands‑on laboratory troubleshooting and validation experience.
  • Experience working with suppliers, fabrication houses, and PCB assembly vendors.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and system integration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with radiation‑tolerant and radiation‑hardened electronics.
  • Experience supporting vibration, thermal vacuum, EMI/EMC, and qualification testing.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Simulink, LTspice, or similar modeling tools.
  • Familiarity with MIL‑STD, NASA, ECSS, IPC, or aerospace design standards.
  • Experience developing automated test equipment or ground electrical test systems.
  • Experience supporting subsystem schedules, technical planning, and risk management.
  • Prior experience supporting NASA, DoD, intelligence community, or commercial spacecraft programs.
  • Active U.S. Security Clearance.
