Mission Critical is an international practice for Burns & McDonnell that involves exciting, collaborative work across many different departments.

This position requires an experienced electrical engineer capable of successfully solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. This candidate will lead design, planning and client coordination activities associated with high, medium and low voltage electrical distribution and control systems found in mission critical, healthcare, and industrial sites.

  • Designs electrical systems/equipment to provide a useful and safe environment for the mission critical market in accordance with the clients requirements for reliability and uptime.
  • Advises clients regarding electrical systems/requirements available to meet their needs and comply with all applicable codes.
  • Monitors installation of designed equipment/systems to ensure compliance with design documents.
  • Conducts fault studies and load flow analysis. Develop design criteria for protective device coordination, relay applications, medium voltage transformers, switchgear, medium and low voltage distribution.
  • Able to develop and/or lead the design of electrical master plans for facilities encompassing but not limited to the following: reliable power distribution, motor control centers, energy efficient lighting systems, communications and telecom routing, instrumentation and controls for HVAC systems, fire-alarm interface, building level uninterrupted power systems (UPS) systems, engine generators.
  • Reviews electrical designs and specifications of equipment or systems being purchased or fabricated.
  • Provides electrical design direction and resource management on multi-discipline projects
  • Developing concept studies, designs, and narratives.
  • Participate in the Identification, recruiting and management of resources to meet the needs of the business
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program. and 7 years electrical engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred. Required or
  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. and 7 years electrical engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred. Required or
  • Master Degree in Electrical Engineering and 6 years electrical engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred. Required
  • Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong knowledge of electrical equipment design ANSI and IEEE Standards. Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License Preferred.
