What You'll Do
As an Apprentice Electrician at Ackard, you'll support our in-house Electrical department by assisting with residential renovation and new home construction projects. You'll work directly with the Electrical Manager and receive day-to-day guidance from Journeyperson Electricians and Site Supervisors. Ackard will provide hands-on training and experience while allowing the necessary time off to attend school and complete your apprenticeship requirements.


Duties vary from one project to another but, in general, electricians read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and architectural drawings, specifications, and codes to determine wiring layouts.

  • Support electrical work on residential renovation and construction projects
  • Receive direction from the Electrical Manager, Journeyperson Electrician, and Site Supervisor
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, blueprints, and code specifications
  • Pull wire, splice and connect circuits, and install conduit and fittings
  • Install, replace, and maintain electrical wiring, receptacles, switches, fixtures, panels, and control devices
  • Set up and maintain distribution equipment, circuit breakers, relays, and fuse enclosures
  • Install data cabling and assist with low-voltage systems
  • Test circuits and components for continuity, voltage, and resistance to ensure safety and performance
  • Assist with the installation and maintenance of renewable energy equipment (e.g., wind, solar systems) as required
  • Promote and enforce safety and environmental policies and procedures. Conduct daily hazard assessments. Maintain a safe and clean work environment. Comply with industry standard procedures and Ackard's safety policies and procedures. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Electrical Manager or management team


What You Bring

  • Enrolled in the Alberta Electrician Apprenticeship Program through AIT
  • Experience in doing electrical tasks
  • Own tools (e.g., meter, cordless drills, tool belt, etc.)
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with own transportation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong interpersonal and customer service abilities
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with a solid aptitude for math and the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Physical endurance and stamina, with the ability to work at heights, tight spaces, and perform tasks with precision
  • Ability to distinguish colours for working with colour-coded wiring
  • Well-developed problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Highly organized, with effective time management and planning abilities
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaborating within a team
  • Professional and neat appearance when interacting with clients, sub-trades, and team members
  • Genuine interest in residential construction and electrical systems, with a commitment to delivering exceptional results that our clients LOVE
  • Eagerness to learn and take direction from experienced team members
  • In-depth understanding of safety practices and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment
  • Skilled in completing paperwork accurately and efficiently
  • Must be able to pass a criminal record check


Working Conditions

  • Lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying objects up to 50 lbs independently and over 75 lbs with assistance
  • Work in various environments, including indoors, outdoors, high places, and tight areas
  • Exposure to dust, fumes, airborne particles, and construction-related hazards
  • Working with moving mechanical parts and electrical equipment
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
  • Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing during installations and repairs
  • Work in varying temperatures and weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold
  • Long working hours or periods of physical exertion during certain tasks
  • Safety regulations must be followed, including conducting hazard assessments and maintaining a clean, organized work area
