Position Summary

The Director of Engineering Labs supports the students and faculty of the Department of Engineering by specifying, developing, calibrating, and maintaining โ€œClassLabโ€ environments and equipment which enable projectโ€‘based learning, including specialized labs for electrical engineering and electrical engineering technology. The Director of Engineering Labs reports to the Chair of Engineering.

Job Responsibilities

  • Define, implement, and maintain programs for safety, maintenance, inventory, and training
  • Specify, assemble and install, operate, and maintain a broad range of equipment and instrumentation including: traditional shop tools, electronic bench instruments, PLCs, 3D printing
  • Directly supervise and train lab assistant student workers in the execution of Departmental projects related to ClassLabs and instruction
  • Develop schedule of lab assistant and Helpdesk workers in collaboration with the faculty
  • Cost, order, receive, organize, and maintain a broad range of supplies (hardware, electronic components, etc.)
  • Collaborate with other campus offices as appropriate and interact with vendors to ensure implementation of approved projects
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • BS in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, or a related field
  • Ability to define technical requirements; identify implementation options (including cost); execute and maintain computer hardware, software, and systems
  • Ability to represent the college in professional and community activities
  • At least three years of experience in a similar role preferred
  • PLC programming experience preferred
