This collaboration often involves participating in cross-functional meetings, reviewing interface requirements, troubleshooting integration issues, and jointly developing testing protocols. Clear communication and a proactive approach to problem-solving are essential, as integration challenges can affect project timelines and quality if not addressed early. This teamwork environment provides valuable exposure to different engineering disciplines and enhances problem-solving skills.

What is the difference between Electrical Integration Engineer vs Electrical Design Engineer?

AspectElectrical Integration EngineerElectrical Design Engineer
Primary FocusIntegrating electrical systems into products or systems, ensuring compatibility and functionalityCreating electrical system designs, schematics, and layouts from specifications
Work EnvironmentTesting, system integration, field installation, and troubleshootingDesign offices, CAD work, and project planning
CertificationsOften requires electrical engineering degrees and relevant certifications (e.g., PE)Similar credentials, including electrical engineering degrees and certifications

Both roles require electrical engineering backgrounds and certifications. The Electrical Integration Engineer focuses on system assembly and testing, while the Electrical Design Engineer emphasizes creating detailed electrical designs. They often collaborate but serve different stages of product development.

What engineers make $300,000 a year?

Senior electrical integration engineers, especially those with extensive experience, specialized skills, and working in high-demand industries like aerospace, defense, or large-scale manufacturing, can earn $300,000 or more annually. Achieving this level often requires advanced certifications, leadership roles, and expertise in complex systems or tools such as CAD and simulation software.

What engineers make $500,000?

Senior electrical integration engineers with extensive experience, specialized skills in systems integration, and advanced certifications can reach or exceed a $500,000 annual salary, especially in high-demand industries like aerospace, defense, or large-scale manufacturing. Such roles often require leadership responsibilities, complex project management, and working in high-cost-of-living regions or for large corporations.

Can you make $500,000 as an electrical engineer?

Electrical integration engineers with extensive experience, specialized skills, and working in high-demand industries such as aerospace or defense can potentially earn salaries approaching or exceeding $500,000 annually, especially with bonuses and stock options. However, such high earnings are uncommon and typically require senior-level positions, advanced certifications, and leadership roles.

What does an electrical integration engineer do?

An electrical integration engineer designs, tests, and implements electrical systems and components to ensure they work seamlessly within larger projects. They often work with circuit design, system testing, and troubleshooting, using tools like CAD software and diagnostic equipment. The role requires knowledge of electrical standards and may involve coordinating with other engineering teams during product development or system deployment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Electrical Integration Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Electrical Integration Engineer, you need a solid understanding of electrical engineering principles, system integration, and typically a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Proficiency with CAD software, circuit simulation tools, and familiarity with industry standards and certifications such as IPC or ISO are commonly required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective teamwork and communication skills help engineers excel in cross-functional projects. These skills and qualifications are crucial for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable integration of electrical systems in complex products.

Job description

Amazon Leo is building a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites to provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities worldwide. We're looking for a talented Hardware and Systems Integration Engineer to join our Prototyping and Integration (PI) Team, supporting development of high-bandwidth optical intersatellite communication systems.
The PI-Team accelerates hardware development through rapid prototyping, manufacturing, and integration of novel Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) and systems for the Optical Intersatellite Link organization. Our learnings are directly applied to scale aerospace manufacturing processes and enable risk reduction through comprehensive Design Verification Testing (DVT) and qualification testing.
As a Hardware and Systems Integration Engineer, you will be a technical leader who balances deep hands-on expertise with the ability to navigate ambiguity and deliver results for our internal customer teams

You will work at the intersection of electrical, mechanical, and optical systems-designing test infrastructure, bringing up complex hardware test racks, leading integration activities, and driving technical innovation in prototyping processes. This role requires someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can respond quickly to support development engineering teams while maintaining the highest standards of execution.
Key job responsibilities
* Lead design, build, and bringup of hardware test systems and automated test equipment for OISL LRU development
* Support qualification and DVT testing across multiple systems
* Drive integration and test activities for complex electromechanical systems, including PCBA testing, optical systems validation, and avionics hardware verification
* Develop and validate test procedures, fixtures, and automation solutions using Python, LabVIEW, and other programming tools to optimize test efficiency and data quality
* Collaborate cross-functionally with development/design engineers, manufacturing engineering, production operations, and quality assurance teams to resolve hardware testing issues and implement corrective actions
* Debug and troubleshoot complex hardware systems using oscilloscopes, VNAs, power supplies, and DMMs; lead technical deep dives on failures, non-conformances, and test anomalies
* Support electrical integration activities including wire harness fabrication, PCBA rework, and hipot testing in cleanroom and lab environments
* Navigate ambiguity in fast-paced development cycles, making sound technical decisions with incomplete information to keep programs on schedule
Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S

permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
A day in the life
You will work closely with Opto-Mechanical, Electrical, and Research teams to develop and validate functional prototypes and test infrastructure for complex electro-optical-mechanical systems. You will drive technical innovation of integration and test processes while maintaining high quality and speed

This position requires strong conceptual development skills and proficient implementation of various test methodologies within a prototyping environment. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced hardware development and responds quickly to support development engineering teams. You will help develop strategies to scale products efficiently, bridging the gap between prototype validation and production readiness.
About the team
The Prototyping and Integration Team accelerates hardware development via manufacturing and integration of first-of-their-kind products

Our learnings are directly applied to scale aerospace manufacturing processes. Our service areas span Hardware Fabrication, Electrical Integration, Electromechanical Hardware Development (test rack design and bringup, device design and validation), DVT and Qualification Testing (environmental testing, optical metrology, reliability testing), and Quality Assurance. We seek candidates who thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments.

Success requires high motivation, attention to detail, and the highest standards of execution. You must be comfortable with ambiguity, making technical decisions with incomplete information, and collaborating across disciplines.
