As part of the Aecon Utilities sector, Aecon Telecommunications works with major providers across North America to support turnkey fiber installation, 5G network expansions, and legacy network services.
Aecon Telecom is seeking a Field Inspector to support telecom construction operations through consistent, hands-on field oversight. Reporting to the Superintendent, this role is responsible for conducting daily field inspections to verify work quality, safety compliance, and adherence to project specifications.
The Field Inspector plays a key role in identifying issues early, supporting field crews, and ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently, and to standard.
What You'll Do Here:
  • Conduct daily field inspections of telecommunications construction activities (fiber optic, FTTH, OSP, and wireless infrastructure) to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and permits
  • Inspect workmanship quality for trenching, conduit placement, vault installation, fiber placement, restoration, and traffic control
  • Verify utility locates, markings, bore paths, and right-of-way conditions before and during construction
  • Monitor field activities for compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and OSHA requirements; escalate unsafe conditions as needed
  • Document inspection results, deficiencies, and corrective actions using digital tools, reports, and photos
  • Coordinate with contractors, crews, inspectors, and project teams to resolve issues and confirm corrective actions
  • Review construction progress against drawings, work packages, and schedules, flagging risks or deviations
  • Ensure compliance with permitting and municipal requirements, including restoration standards and traffic management plans
  • Support QA/QC processes by validating as-built conditions and contributing to project closeout documentation
  • Act as a liaison between crews, municipalities, utilities, and internal stakeholders
  • Identify recurring issues and escalate trends to support continuous improvement

What You Bring to the Team:
  • 3+ years of experience in telecommunications construction inspection or support (fiber, FTTH, OSP, wireless)
  • Strong knowledge of telecom construction methods, materials, and installation standards
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, permits, traffic control plans, and as-built documentation
  • Working knowledge of safety standards, including OSHA, hazard identification, and safe work practices
  • Familiarity with municipal permitting, right-of-way regulations, and environmental controls
  • Experience performing field inspections and documenting deficiencies with digital tools
  • Ability to identify non-compliant work and communicate findings clearly
  • Strong understanding of QA/QC processes
  • Experience working with contractors, inspectors, utilities, and project teams
  • Proficiency in field technology (tablets, inspection apps, Microsoft Office, cloud-based systems)
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites and work outdoors in varying conditions
