Job description

Overview

Egan Company is seeking candidates for a BIM Designer role located in Kasson, MN to join our Electrical Solutions & Prefabrication team! The BIM Designer oversees model management tasks for design and VDC projects and spearheads the development and maintenance of Egan’s Revit infrastructure.

With the flexibility of working hybrid in this role, you can collaborate alongside team members and project partners with a blend of working in the office and at home.

Responsibilities

The basic responsibilities of the BIM Designer include but are not limited to the following:

  • Collaborate with others to develop CAD standards and best practices.
  • Create documentation for how-to's, best practices, and standards
  • Collaborate with others to establish CAD development initiatives. These initiatives should add value to CAD deliverables and contribute to Egan’s bottom line. Specifically, CAD development should accomplish one or more of the following:
    • Reduce on site construction labor
    • Reduce CAD labor
    • Realize opportunities for off-site fabrication
    • Reduce material waste
    • Accelerate project schedules
    • Reduce informational errors
    • Increase informational precision
    • Enable Egan to communicate information of appropriate quantity and kind. The model is rich with information, but not all of it needs to be extracted and shared. However, if the overall benefit of sharing more information exceeds the cost, then it should be shared. How that information is shared is also critical. We want tools and processes that enable our documentation to be easily and intuitively understood.
  • Collaborate to prioritize CAD development initiatives
  • Execute CAD development initiatives.
  • Assist the Virtual Construction Group Manager, the Chief Information Officer (IT), and others to obtain and implement appropriate CAD hardware.
  • Investigate and test new technologies and techniques
  • Assist with project work
    • Answer user questions
    • Create project specific content for Virtual Design Construction projects
    • Establish BIM execution guidelines with other project stakeholders (owner, owner’s rep, contractor, architect, etc.). Communicate these guidelines to the in-house team.
    • Assist with modeling, annotating, and 3D coordination
    • Visit construction sites for verification and as-building
    • Attend 3D coordination meetings
    • Perform 3D modeling with main focus towards pre-fabrication
    • Assure the design results in conflict-free installation.
    • Create files for Trimble locating system
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Build strong internal partnerships, work collaboratively with other Egan groups to support Egan’s Mission, Vision and Values.
Requirements
  • Required: High school diploma
  • Two year technical degree in related program such as Electrical Construction Design or related field
  • AutoCAD 3D and/or Revit highly preferred.

Working Conditions
  • This role is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement - working a mix of in the office and at home.
  • Occasional travel to job sites for meetings with foreman, site verification and job site meetings.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Exposure to loud noise, dirt, and exposure to the elements are to be expected on job sites.
  • Climbing ladders/stairs, uneven ground, bending, kneeling, and twisting are to be expected on job sites.

Salary Range: $69,000-$90,000 (subject to such factors as experience, education, and/or skill set) plus potential annual discretionary bonus.

Hybrid: This role is eligible for our hybrid work model.
