Helpers support the work process, gaining experience to become licensed electricians in the future.

What is an electrical helper?

Electrical helpers are entry-level workers who assist electricians with the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems. Their duties often include supplying or holding tools, cleaning work areas, running wires, and performing basic tasks under the supervision of a licensed electrician. This position is ideal for individuals looking to gain experience in the electrical trade and can serve as a stepping stone to becoming a fully licensed electrician.

What does an electrical helper do?

As an Electrical Helper, your daily tasks typically include assisting electricians with installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems. This may involve running wire, assembling fixtures, organizing tools and materials, and preparing work areas for licensed electricians. You’ll also be responsible for adhering to safety procedures and may help with troubleshooting under supervision. The role offers a hands-on learning environment and is a great entry point for those interested in advancing to a licensed electrician position.

How do I become an electrical helper?

To become an electrical helper, you typically need a high school diploma or equivalent and basic knowledge of electrical systems. On-the-job training is common, and developing skills with hand tools and safety procedures is important; some positions may require OSHA safety certification.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an electrical helper, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Electrical Helper, you need basic knowledge of electrical systems, manual dexterity, and a high school diploma or equivalent, often complemented by on-the-job training. Familiarity with hand and power tools, wiring diagrams, and safety protocols is essential in this role. Strong attention to detail, effective communication, and a willingness to learn help individuals stand out. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring safety, supporting licensed electricians, and contributing to successful electrical installations and repairs.

Design Smarter. Deliver Better. Grow Here.

At Steen Engineering, we believe engineering is more than just calculations - it's problem-solving with purpose. As an Electrical Engineer Level 3, you'll be entrusted with projects that demand both technical rigor and strong relationship-building. You'll lead teams, collaborate closely with architects and contractors, and help shape systems that make a lasting difference in the spaces where people live, work, and thrive. If you're looking to evolve your technical expertise and grow into a business leader, Steen is the place to be.

The Role at a Glance

This role is ideal for a licensed or license-track electrical engineer with 7-20 years of experience and a readiness to own projects and foster client relationships. You'll serve as a true project manager in coordinating all aspects of MEP design across diverse market sectors, while also mentoring junior teammates and identifying new opportunities for Steen to serve and shine.

What You'll Do

  • Lead project design and execution-from kickoff through construction administration.
  • Serve as our client's trusted point of contact for project updates, problem-solving, and progress to plan.
  • Meet with owners, architects, and engineers to define project needs and system requirements.
  • Develop schematic design concepts, metering strategies, and power distribution planning.
  • Oversee and verify load calculations, system layouts, details and specifications.
  • Review, mark up, and produce detailed construction documents using Revit, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam.
  • Manage scope, schedule, and resources, and escalate potential overages as needed.
  • Lead peer review and QA processes to ensure every set meets the meticulous standard of The Steen Way.
  • Perform site visits and field observations to ensure systems are being implemented as designed.
  • Build and maintain client relationships that result in expanded and new business opportunities.

What You Bring

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 7-20 years of experience in electrical design or project management.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Office 365, and load software.
  • Strong understanding of applicable codes, standards, and construction practices.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to build trust with teammates, clients and partners.
  • A curious mind, a humble attitude, and a sharp eye for detail.
  • A mindset that aligns with our core team values - Humble, Hardworking and Smart - that means checking our ego at the door, digging in together to make it work, and delivering the smart, sensible solutions our clients know and love us for.

What Makes Steen Different?

We're big believers in people over titles, growth over perfection, and partnership over ego. At Steen, engineers are empowered to:

  • Grow into leaders with real mentorship and autonomy.
  • Design with purpose on projects that get built and make a difference.
  • Stay grounded in a collaborative, family-style culture that puts people first.
  • Be proud of your work-and the team standing behind it.

Apply now and grow your career the Steen Way.
