Located in Franklin Park, IL a few minutes northwest of Chicago, Vapor Power International, LLC (subsidiary of Thermon) is an industry leader in the design and manufacturing of steam generators and thermal fluid heaters. Custom engineered-to-order, their products serve a broad range of markets from food processing to petrochemical applications. Founded in the early 1900's, Vapor Power has grown from a small supplier of heating products for the railroad industry to one of the most regarded suppliers of specialty equipment for steam generation and process heating.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design electrical control systems and review existing control systems for all product lines, which includes gas fired boilers, electrode, and electric boilers.
  • Prepare schematic wiring diagrams, control panel layouts, and bills of materials.
  • Select components to meet the customer specifications and code requirements.
  • Assure compliance of products with applicable (NEC, NFPA, UL, CSA) codes.
  • Check with shop assemblers to confirm that they fabricate units as designed and that the design is practical (controls are accessible and are safely located, etc.).
  • Maintain UL files and records for listed products.
  • Assist customers and service technicians with troubleshooting, both remotely and on-site.
  • Write technical documents and descriptions of the operation of electrical control systems. These include electrical system descriptions and operating instructions to be used in instruction manuals provided to customers.
  • Assist other departments such as marketing in developing new products or options, service by answering inquiries, purchasing by approving alternate sources or deviations, manufacturing by helping to improve process and productivity.
  • Write PLC programs.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years electrical engineering experience
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • Ability to read all applicable drawings, including mechanical, electrical and instrumentation.
  • Must have expertise and proficiency with basic office computer software, e.g. Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Power Point, MS Project, Access, etc.
  • Proficient with CAD for creating and editing drawings.
  • Boiler industry experience a plus
  • A working knowledge of ASME Pressure Vessel Codes, boilers, heat transfer equipment, or auxiliary boiler room equipment is preferred.
Physical Demands:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Work Environment:

This position must perform tasks that involve mainly office exposure, sitting behind a desk performing tasks on a computer. Most of their time, the employee will spend time in the office with low to moderate exposure to noise, heat, and cold environment, other physical requirements include walking, bending, hand dexterity, speaking, seeing, and lifting/moving up to 15 pounds. Steel toe shoes, earplugs and safety glasses are always required while on the production floor.
