Representative Job Duties Reviews electrical construction plans, blueprints, and specifications to ensure compliance with applicable laws, zoning ordinances, and electrical codes.

Makes on-site inspections of all electrical installations, fire alarm systems and signs, in both residential and commercial buildings to ensure conformity to approved plans; resolves on-going problems and/or questions; follows-up on complaints and inquiries relating to electrical problems. Advises electrical contractors, builders and the public regarding electrical codes, licensing, permits, proper material and procedures. Investigates violations of electrical codes and ordinances and takes necessary action to enforce legal requirements; attends court sessions and gives testimony as required.

Prepares correspondence and reports and maintains detailed records. Responsible for electrical inspections for special shows, carnivals and shows on City grounds. Conducts 1 & 2 Family and Multi- Family Housing and/or other departmental inspections Performs related duties as required.

Job Requirements - As Determined By the City Of Southfield High school graduate or equivalent; Must possess an Electrician License at the time of application. One to two years plan review experience. Two (2) years' recent full-time experience as an Electrical Inspector OR construction experience sufficient to produce an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the National Electrical codes, NFPA codes, ICC codes and related standards and the ability to apply this knowledge in the field.

Effective written and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively with others. Registration as a P.A.54 of 1986 Electrical Inspector and Plan Reviewer with the State of Michigan, OR the ability to obtain such registration within six (6) months of appointment by virtue of previous training and experience. Sufficient analytical, cognitive and physical skills to effectively perform the essential functions of the position in the stated environment, with or without accommodation Valid Michigan driver's license and a good driving record
