Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Electrical Engineering Manager (Team Lead) to be based in Denver, CO. This role is a senior leadership position within AECOM's Buildings + Places electrical engineering practice, responsible for technical excellence, people leadership, and electrical discipline delivery across a diverse portfolio of building projects.

The Electrical Engineering Manager will lead and grow our team of electrical engineers supporting projects across commercial, science & technology, aviation, federal, industrial, and missioncritical markets. Typical project sizes range from $5M to $500M in construction value, with opportunities to support large, complex, multidisciplinary programs.

This role is ideal for a senior electrical engineer who has served as a technical lead, project manager, or departmentlevel leader and is ready to formally step into team leadership, delivery ownership, and practice development responsibilities, while remaining technically engaged in electrical design.

Responsibilities

Technical & Project Leadership

  • Serve as the electrical discipline lead and formal Engineer of Record for assigned projects
  • Lead electrical design for midsize projects and major scopes on large, complex multidisciplinary projects
  • Perform and review advanced electrical engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports
  • Provide technical expertise in:
    • Power distribution and service entrance systems
    • Lighting and lighting controls design
    • Emergency, standby, and critical power systems
    • Grounding, bonding, and lightning protection
    • Fire alarm, communications, security, and other lowvoltage systems
  • Support delivery of resilient, energyefficient, and electrificationfocused designs
  • Oversee construction administration activities including submittals, RFIs, site observations, and technical issue resolution
  • Represent electrical engineering in client meetings, interdisciplinary coordination, and design reviews

People & Practice Leadership

  • Lead, manage, and grow electrical engineering teams, including workload planning, resourcing, and technical oversight
  • Support hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and professional development of Engineer staff
  • Provide performance feedback, goalsetting, and career guidance aligned with AECOM expectations
  • Mentor engineers toward professional licensure, technical upskilling, and future leadership roles
  • Foster a culture of quality, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Support workforce forecasting and coordination with discipline, department, and regional leadership

Delivery Ownership & Business Support

  • Own electrical discipline delivery on assigned projects, ensuring quality, schedule, and budget performance
  • Act as an Electrical Lead, supporting scope development, staffing plans, and coordination
  • Contribute to technical proposals, pursuit strategies, interviews, and client presentations
  • Support and strengthen client relationships through trusted technical leadership
  • Assist discipline leadership with development of standards, tools, and delivery best practices

Thought Leadership & Regional Collaboration

  • Participate in technical reviews, internal knowledge sharing, and mentoring initiatives
  • Collaborate with electrical teams across the large network of AECOM offices
  • Support innovation initiatives related to digital delivery, sustainability, and resilient infrastructure
  • Participate in shaping regional technical standards, and innovation initiatives within the Buildings + Places practice

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program
  • 8+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 12+ years of electrical engineering experience
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Colorado or ability to obtain via comity within 6 months
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC, NFPA, IES, and applicable building codes
  • Experience designing building electrical systems including power, lighting, emergency, and lowvoltage systems
  • Proficiency with electrical analysis and design tools such as SKM, ETAP, Easypower, Revit, and AutoCAD
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to perform site visits; valid driver's license required
  • Prior experience in a team lead, department lead, or mentoringheavy role
  • Experience with aviation, federal, missioncritical, or science & technology facilities
  • Background in resilient power systems, microgrids, electrification, or sustainabilitydriven design
  • Advanced BIM coordination experience
  • Credentials such as LEED AP, CEM, or NCEES Record
