Job Summary

We are seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer for our Long Beach, CA office to lead electrical engineering delivery across a portfolio of projects. In this role, you will provide advanced electrical engineering services, offering technical leadership, oversight, and supervision within the electrical engineering team.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of electrical engineers and designers, overseeing their work on oil, gas, and chemical projects.
  • Plan, organize, and direct engineering work, ensuring on-time completion, safety in design, and quality outcomes from conception to completion.
  • Collaborate with project management, clients, and other disciplines to meet project objectives. May lead one or more projects while providing guidance for other lead engineers within the program.
  • Maintain relationships with project management and clients to ensure satisfaction with the quality and progress of the project.
  • Communicate effectively with the team and management, possessing strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Deliver electrical engineering services that meet client and regulatory specifications, on time and within budget.
  • Initiate, manage, and if required, supervise electrical engineering project requirements.
  • Perform electrical engineering services such as participating in meetings, preparing progress reports, and following required checking procedures.
  • Ensure project scope is clear and changes comply with project change management processes.
  • Provide assistance and advice during procurement, construction, and commissioning activities, including writing requisitions, conducting technical bid evaluations, and writing purchase orders.
  • Act as the electrical engineering lead on specific projects if required.
  • Proactively resolve discrepancies between client and customer requirements.
  • Keep up to date with the latest developments and technical innovations in electrical engineering.
  • Assist and support junior personnel within the electrical engineering team if required.
  • Identify issues and problems, develop appropriate solutions, and seek assistance when necessary.
Qualifications

Technical/Industry Experience and Qualifications:

  • Excellent technical and practical engineering skills with the ability to deliver quality, accurate, and timely work.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals and basic requirements of other engineering fields.
  • Competent use of relevant software such as MS Office Suite and electrical engineering specific software like ETAP and SPL.
  • Experience in development and design of MV and LV electrical distribution systems, equipment selection, protective relay selection, and power management system configuration.
  • Extensive experience in electrical engineering within the oil and gas industry, including multi-disciplinary projects and teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Education โ€“ Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

  • Required: A recognized and relevant BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Preferred: Relevant postgraduate qualifications in engineering, management, project management, or supervisory qualifications. Professional Engineer (PE or P. Eng) status in the US/Canada.
