About the role

We are looking for an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Geotechnical to join the Mine Technical Services team at IOC in Labrador City. This role is an opportunity to develop practical geotechnical engineering experience in a large-scale mining operation while contributing to safe, efficient and sustainable mining activities.

Reporting to the Superintendent Geoscience and working within a challenging and collaborative environment, you will support geotechnical programs that help manage ground control risk, optimise mine designs and provide critical technical advice to operational stakeholders.

What you'll be doing

• Conduct field inspections of pit walls, development areas and waste dumps to identify, assess and communicate geotechnical hazards.
• Collect, validate and interpret geotechnical data to support slope design conformance, stability assessments and operational decision making.
• Complete geological, structural and geotechnical mapping activities to support pit slope design, reconciliation and risk management.
• Review and analyse geotechnical monitoring and instrumentation data, identifying trends and escalating potential risks.
• Support geotechnical investigations, including core logging, borehole instrumentation and ground control programs.
• Apply geotechnical analysis tools and software to evaluate ground conditions and provide practical recommendations.
• Collaborate with operations, mine planning and contractors to ensure geotechnical controls are implemented and maintained.
• Prepare technical reports and communicate geotechnical findings and recommendations to stakeholders.

Required for Success

• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
• A bachelor's degree in Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related discipline, with eligibility to register as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT).
• A valid driver's licence and the ability to work in an outdoor mining environment in varying weather conditions.
• Demonstrated ability to analyse technical data, solve problems and communicate findings effectively in English.
• Willingness to work a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off FIFO roster based in Labrador City.

Helpful for Success

• Exposure through internships, co-op placements or project work in mining, geotechnical, geological or civil engineering environments.
• Experience with geological or geotechnical mapping, core logging or geotechnical data collection.
• Familiarity with Rocscience, Leapfrog, Maptek products or geotechnical monitoring platforms.
• Understanding of slope stability, rock mechanics, ground control or mine geotechnical engineering principles.
• Ability to build effective working relationships with multidisciplinary teams and contractors.
