Working under the supervision of licensed Professional Engineers and experienced technical staff, the successful candidate will assist with technical analysis, field data collection, testing support, project documentation, reporting, and customer deliverables.
This role is based in Winnipeg, Manitoba and requires approximately 50% travel to customer sites and project locations. Travel may include day trips, overnight stays, extended field assignments, and occasional work outside Manitoba based on project and business needs.
Responsibilities- Support electrical engineering and field-service projects involving power distribution, substations, industrial facilities, utilities, and commercial electrical systems.

- Collect, review, and organize field data, test results, equipment information, drawings, photos, and customer documentation.
- Support the preparation of engineering reports, service reports, test documentation, technical summaries, and customer deliverables.
- Review single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment drawings, relay settings, and technical specifications.
- Participate in testing and commissioning support for transformers, switchgear, breakers, relays, cables, metering systems, grounding systems, and related electrical infrastructure.
- Work with Shermco engineers, technologists, technicians, project managers, customers, and vendors to support safe and effective project execution.
- Follow Shermco, customer, site-specific, provincial, and federal safety requirements, including participation in safety meetings, job hazard assessments, and field briefings.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited or recognized engineering program.
- Registered as an Engineer-in-Training with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba, or eligible and willing to register as an EIT in Manitoba.
- Interest in power systems, electrical distribution, substations, protection and control, electrical testing, commissioning, or field engineering.
- Ability to work under the supervision of licensed Professional Engineers and within applicable engineering practice requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documents.
- Valid driver's licence with the ability to travel approximately 50%, including overnight travel and work away from home when required.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams. Exposure to AutoCAD, Bluebeam, electrical study software, or test reporting systems is considered an asset.
- Previous co-op, internship, utility, industrial, consulting, construction, electrical services, or field experience is considered an asset.
Skills and Competencies
- Safety-focused approach to all work.
- Strong attention to detail when reviewing drawings, test data, reports, and technical documents.
- Practical problem-solving skills and curiosity about how electrical systems operate in the field.
- Ability to communicate clearly with internal teams, customers, and site personnel.
- Willingness to learn from engineers, technologists, technicians, and field-service teams.
- Comfortable working in both office and field environments.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage documentation and project details.
- Professional judgment and willingness to work within the limits of training, supervision, and EIT status.
Travel and Working Conditions
This position requires approximately 50% travel based on project needs, customer requirements, training, and business demands. Travel may include field assignments throughout Manitoba, other Canadian provinces and the United States, overnight stays, extended assignments away from home, and occasional overtime, weekend work, shutdown support, or emergency response support.
