Job Title: Electrical Design Leader
Job Type: Full-time, Direct Hire
Location: Birmingham, AL
Job Summary:
Our client is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Leader to manage and guide multidisciplinary engineering and design teams on complex, heavy industrial projects. This role is ideal for a licensed Electrical Engineer (PE preferred) or a highly experienced Senior Designer with 15–20 years of relevant experience. The candidate will play a critical role in delivering high-quality electrical designs, coordinating across disciplines, and ensuring successful project execution from concept through completion.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage teams of electrical engineers and designers on large-scale industrial projects
  • Develop technical scopes of work and detailed electrical equipment specifications
  • Design and review key electrical deliverables, including: single-line diagrams, motor elementary diagrams, interconnection diagrams, power distribution plans, cable schedules, lighting and grounding plans
  • Direct and oversee the production of design deliverables to ensure quality and accuracy
  • Review and approve vendor drawings and technical submittals
  • Perform FEL (Front-End Loading) estimates (FEL 1, 2, and 3)
  • Collaborate with other discipline leads and clients to resolve technical challenges and drive project solutions
  • Conduct site walk-downs to gather field data and verify design conditions
  • Participate in client meetings, bid walk-downs, and project reviews
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering OR 15–20 years of relevant experience as a Senior Electrical Designer
  • Proven experience leading teams on complex, multi-discipline industrial projects
  • Strong knowledge of electrical design standards, codes, and best practices
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills
  • Ability to work both in-office and in field environments
Preferred Experience:
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, but not required
  • Heavy industrial project experience (e.g., manufacturing, chemical, energy, or similar sectors)
  • Experience with project estimation and front-end engineering design (FEL phases)
  • Demonstrated ability to interface directly with clients and stakeholders
