Job description

Allied High Tech Products is seeking a Software Controls Engineer for our Oklahoma City R&D facility. This role will work with software, mechanical, electrical, and materials engineering teams to research, design, develop, and support software used to interface with and control electro-mechanical products and systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC logic and related control software for electro-mechanical systems.
  • Design and implement software interfaces for machine control, automation, and operator interaction.
  • Develop and configure HMI applications for industrial equipment, with 4D Systems experience preferred.
  • Support integration of motors, drives, sensors, controllers, and communication networks into production-ready systems.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, and materials engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Read electrical schematics and mechanical assembly drawings to support troubleshooting, wiring validation, and system integration.
  • Participate in R&D activities, prototype testing, debugging, documentation, and continuous improvement of equipment software.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in industrial automation, PLC programming, controls engineering, and/or software development.
  • Ability to write, modify, and troubleshoot PLC logic using Ladder Logic, Structured Text, and other IEC 61131-3 programming languages.
  • Working knowledge of major PLC platforms, such as Siemens, Rockwell / Allen-Bradley, and Omron.
  • Understanding of industrial networks and protocols, including Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, CAN, and EtherCAT.
  • Basic programming experience with C, C++, C#, and/or Python.
  • Experience working with linear, stepper, brushed, and servo motors and associated controllers; Elmo and Parker controller experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical assembly drawings.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively in a collaborative R&D environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Qt 5.15.2 or newer for application development and user-interface work.
  • Knowledge of OpenGL or related graphics technologies.
  • Experience with PCB design tools such as Eagle, KiCad, or Altium.
  • Experience developing software for equipment, instrumentation, automation platforms, or similar electro-mechanical systems.·
