Job description

The Town of Longmeadow, MA is seeking qualified applicants for the PT position of Electrical Inspector. Position is responsible for administrative, inspection, and technical work in enforcing provisions of the Massachusetts Electrical Code as it applies to electrical installations and ensures all Town electrical work being done in conformance with applicable codes.

Successful candidate must have:

  • Knowledge of relevant Massachusetts General Laws related to essential functions. Knowledge of building permits computer software and applications, basic computer skills and a willingness to learn new programs as needed. Must have extensive knowledge of the principles of electrical engineering as it applies to electrical appliances and wiring installations.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage conflict. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain good public relations and to maintain effective collaborative working relationships with Town departments, department heads, fellow employees, officials and the general public and to respond in a courteous and professional manner. Ability to meet deadlines. Ability to work independently. Ability to safely operate tools necessary to conduct electric and wire inspections. Ability to learn new software as needed.
  • Strong communication skills, problem solving skills and customer service skills. Must be able to read and prepare necessary diagrams; maintain complete and accurate inspection records; operate Windows-based building permit software programs; prioritize and perform tasks in a timely manner and with little or no supervision and be able to communicate effectively. Proficient in use of computer programs including Microsoft Office and Google Suites, email, and internet.

Bachelors degree in related field or journeyman level of trade knowledge and 3 to 5 years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience.

Valid drivers license and possession of current Massachusetts Journeyman Electrician's License required. Valid Massachusetts Master Electrician's License preferred. Electrical Inspector Certification required and must be maintained as a condition of employment.
