Job Overview
This position exists to provide North American Engineering & Development with technical leadership in the research, design, and development of mining truck power systems, including electric drive and energy storage technologies. The role leads the simulation and performance analysis of the truck power system, motor-drive control, and energy storage systems, ensuring robust, efficient, and reliable solutions. In addition, it defines technical requirements and supports the specification and selection of major system components to enable successful product development.
Key Job Responsibilities
  • Develops the design of complex drive systems that integrate hardware and software
  • Develops complex simulation tools to evaluate Drive system architecture, performance, thermal and dynamic response, motor control, dc-dc converters for battery, etc.
  • Support development of complex material specification with circuit simulations.
  • Develops and maintain state-of-the-art knowledge about mining truck drive systems and power systems. Understand competitive equipment features, performance, cost of operation and Total cost of ownership, etc. Make suggestions and motivate subordinates to conceive "Unrivaled Product Features.".
  • Provides expert technical advice and recommendations; may support multiple business units or division's needs.

Qualifications/Requirements
  • BS/BA in electrical/computer engineering; Masters or advanced degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Typically, 5-8 years of successful experience in related field and successful demonstration of key responsibilities and knowledge as presented above.
  • Specific and demonstrable technical expertise on electric drive systems gained by designing or simulating drive systems and/or related components. In-depth knowledge of drive system theory, function and operation is essential.
  • Proficient in Simulink/Math lab/PSIM/PSCAD;
  • Experience with HIL (Hardware-in-loop) is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required to work within engineering as well as with other departments, vendors and subordinates and the ability to present to Senior Management.
  • Experience in leading development projects and ability to take ownership of projects and drive them to completion with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in software applications including Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point, as a minimum.
  • Ability and willingness to travel, including international travel up to 5%-10% of working time.
  • Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the associate is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (life, carry, move) light to medium weights of 1-10 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.

Hiring Range
At Komatsu, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays $$100,000 - $135,000. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including experience and location.
