Job description

Job Title: Design Engineer 2

Location: Onsite –Alpharetta, GA

Contract duration: 24 month contract with strong potential to extend or convert

We are seeking a Design Engineer to support the design and development of electrical control systems for project-based engineering initiatives. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on creating and modifying electrical schematics, hardware designs, CAD drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs) for custom projects. The engineer will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team in a professional office environment while receiving exposure to manufacturing operations. This opportunity is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in electrical controls design who is eager to learn and grow in a collaborative engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical control systems, including electrical schematics and hardware layouts.
  • Create, modify, and maintain electrical CAD drawings using AutoCAD Electrical or similar smart CAD software.
  • Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) for electrical assemblies.
  • Read, interpret, and troubleshoot electrical schematics, relay logic, and PLC input/output diagrams.
  • Collaborate with engineering team members to support project execution and meet design objectives.
  • Participate in project planning, estimating, and design reviews.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and implementing design changes as needed.
  • Support manufacturing by understanding how designs are applied on the production floor.
  • Maintain engineering documentation and ensure designs meet project requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • An associate degree with 6+ years of relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Candidates with a relevant master's degree are also eligible.
  • 2–4 years of relevant electrical controls design experience.
  • Experience designing electrical control systems and hardware.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical or comparable electrical CAD software.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, relay logic, and PLC I/O diagrams.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and adapt.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.

Preferred Skills

  • Electrical hardware controls design experience.
  • Smart CAD software experience.
  • Strong understanding of electrical schematic documentation.
  • Experience supporting project-based engineering work.
  • Professionalism, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset.
