Job description

Company Overview

Upchurch is a rapidly growing, full-service building engineering company providing mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical services across the southeastern United States. Founded in 1970 and headquartered in Horn Lake, MS, Upchurch has grown through both organic expansion and strategic acquisitions, establishing a strong reputation for quality, reliability, and service excellence. We offer end-to-end solutionsโ€”from design and installation to ongoing maintenance and emergency supportโ€”helping clients maximize building performance, energy efficiency, and equipment lifespan.

Position Summary

The Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems in commercial and industrial environments, with a strong focus on safety, quality, and productivity. This role supports projects across multiple job sites and requires frequent travel (50%โ€“75%). Candidates with data center experience (critical power, UPS, generators, switchgear, and structured grounding/bonding) are highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems including conduit, wiring, panels, transformers, lighting, and control systems in accordance with NEC and local codes.

  • Perform electrical testing and troubleshooting using appropriate meters and diagnostic tools; identify root causes and implement safe repairs.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, one-lines, schematics, and specifications to execute work accurately.

  • Install and terminate equipment such as switchgear, breakers, panels, motor controls, VFDs, and distribution systems.

  • Support critical environments (when applicable) including UPS systems, generators, PDUs/RPPs, grounding/bonding, and high-reliability electrical infrastructure.

  • Ensure compliance with safety requirements including LOTO, arc-flash procedures, PPE use, and job hazard analysis.

  • Coordinate with foremen, project managers, and other trades to meet schedules and maintain workflow on active job sites.

  • Document work performed, material usage, and field changes; communicate progress and issues promptly.

  • Travel to regional/out-of-state sites as assigned (50%โ€“75%), including occasional overnight stays and flexible scheduling.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited electrical apprenticeship program preferred.

  • 3+ years of commercial/industrial electrical experience (journeyman-level experience preferred).

  • Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and electrical safety standards.

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, one-line diagrams, and electrical schematics.

  • Experience with conduit bending, wire pulls, terminations, and electrical installations in active construction environments.

  • Data center experience is a plus (critical power systems, switchgear, UPS, generators, grounding/bonding, cable tray).

  • Valid driverโ€™s license and ability to meet travel requirements (50%โ€“75%).

  • Ability to work safely at heights, in confined spaces, and lift/carry materials as required.

  • Strong communication skills, dependable attendance, and the ability to work independently or as part of a crew.

Benefits:

  • Competitive pay based on experience.

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.

  • Paid time off and holiday pay.

  • Opportunities for professional development and certification assistance.
