Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

This position is responsible to help create, maintain, and repair the electronic components and equipment used in any equipment or device that involves electricity. The Electrical Apprentice works closely with more qualified technicians, electricians, or electrical engineers to keep machinery and equipment running correctly.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist to troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning equipment, appliances, and apparatus
  • Construct and fabricate parts, using hand tools and specifications
  • Assist with the repair and replacement of defective components in motors, generators, controllers, switchboards, conductors, switches and varied electrical fixtures
  • Install, maintain and repair electrical, electromechanical, and electronic parts of machinery and equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance on electrical equipment.
  • Evaluate electrical as well as operational problems
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Ability to use electrical and hand tools (e.g. wire strippers, voltmeter etc.) and electrical drawings and blueprints
  • Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and legal regulations and guidelines
  • Excellent problemsolving skills
  • General knowledge on electrical construction
  • General knowledge on tool upkeep
  • EDUCATION, LICENSES AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Twoyear Electrical Technical certification
  • Completion of an electrical apprenticeship
  • 2 years’ experience as an Electrical Apprentice I
  • Experience operating hand and power tools, soldering and faulttesting equipment
  • Oil and gas industrial electrical experience preferred
  • WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

  • Physical Activity: Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of averageweight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • Work environment: Involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions; may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Regular predictable attendance is required.
