JOB SUMMARY
We're seeking a Fire Alarm Field Service Technician Apprentice in or around the Bloomington, IL area to join our team and build a long-term career with ORR Protection. As a Field Service Technician, you are a vital part of our front line and the backbone of our organization. In this role, you'll work with some of the largest and most successful companies in the world while receiving top-notch training on industry-leading fire alarm systems and fire suppression equipment.
Our apprentice technicians participate in a formalized training program that includes both hands-on training and in the field experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • All team members must embody the company mission to provide protection for people, property, and the environment in all aspects of their job.
  • Perform routine inspection and testing tasks according to OPS work instructions. Typical inspection and testing tasks include:
    • Test and clean smoke detectors
    • Test manual pull stations and other initiating devices
    • Test other system inputs and outputs
    • Test and verify audio visual components
    • Inspect and measure weight of agent storage containers
    • Record inspection and test results in the company's electronic inspection program.
  • Assist in installation and commissioning tasks with supervision.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Associate degree or certification in low-voltage electricity or related field, preferred.
  • Military fire protection experience, preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Basic mechanical and electrical ability.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work autonomously.
  • Demonstrated customer service mindset.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • This is a remote position that would be deployed from the associate's home to local job sites for installs, service, or repairs.
  • Company tools, technology, and equipment provided.
  • Occasional on-call days and/or overtime required for unscheduled service needs.
  • Job duties require the ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and crawl into tight or awkward places.
  • Overnight travel required up to 25% of the time.
  • Apprentice technicians will work under the supervision of an experienced technician.
