Job Title: Electric Power Generation (EPG) Applications Engineering Manager - Data Center

Location: Manassas, Virginia; Dulles, Virginia; Elkridge, Maryland; Richmond, Virginia

Starting Compensation Range: $130,000 - $170,000 per year

What You Will Do: 

Application Engineering Leadership and Technical Authority

  • Provide technical leadership and final approval for complex and missioncritical EPG applications, reinforcing Application Engineers as trusted customer and sales partners
  • Establish engineering standards, design guidelines, and review processes that ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance across all Application Engineering work
  • Serve as escalation point for advanced troubleshooting, system integration challenges, and nonstandard applications

Sales Enablement and PreSales Alignment

  • Align Application Engineering activities directly to sales objectives, win strategy, and customer value propositions
  • Partner with Sales Managers to support RFP reviews, technical strategy, proposal risk assessment, and value engineering decisions
  • Enable Application Engineers to lead technical customer interactions with confidence, ensuring messaging consistency and solution clarity

Project Handoff and Execution Excellence

  • Ensure smooth transition from sales/application engineering to project execution through standardized handoff processes and clear scope definition
  • Oversee the quality and timeliness of engineering deliverables including onelines, schematics, layouts, and submittals
  • Collaborate closely with Project Management, Packaging, Service, and Commissioning teams to resolve technical issues and prevent downstream rework

Financial, Operational and Workload Management

  • Manage engineering labor utilization, prioritization, and workload balancing to support fastpaced sales cycles without sacrificing quality
  • Drive margin improvement by promoting standardized designs, modular solutions, and early technical risk identification
  • Monitor engineering performance metrics, including rework, warrantyrelated issues, and bid support responsiveness

Talent Development and Technical Mentorship

  • Recruit, mentor, and develop Application Engineers with a focus on technical depth, commercial awareness, and customer leadership
  • Formalize technical training paths, mentoring structures, and knowledge sharing aligned to the Senior / Lead Application Engineer expectations
  • Build succession pipelines that prepare highperforming Application Engineers for advanced technical, commercial, or leadership roles

Innovation, Standards and Strategic Growth

  • Guide Application Engineering readiness for emerging technologies such as BESS, hybrid systems, microgrids, and energy transition solutions
  • Coordinate with OEMs, product support, and internal design teams to keep engineering practices current and competitive
  • Support dealer strategy by ensuring Application Engineers are equipped to lead technical discussions in resiliency and energy markets
  • Work in coordination with team to achieve Continuous Improvement goals and objectives
  • Perform various other duties as assigned 

What We’re Looking For: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (BSME preferred)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, preferred
  • Minimum seven years of experience in power generation or electrical distribution
  • CAT power systems experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership of application or salessupport engineering teams
  • Advanced generator sizing and application engineering
  • Power systems protection, controls, and integration
  • Crossfunctional leadership and sales enablement
  • Coaching, mentoring, and technical decisionmaking
  • Commercial awareness and customerfacing communication
