Project Engineer- Substation Design, Waco, TX

We’re looking for a Substation Design Project Engineer to join our team of innovators, problem solvers, and trusted industry experts. 

If you’re ready to bring your engineering skills to a collaborative environment where your work directly impacts the safe and efficient delivery of electricity to millions, we’d love to meet you. 

What You’ll Do 

Design & Develop: 

  • Create, review or revise substation layouts, engineering drawings, system calculations, and specifications. Design projects in compliance with codes, standards, and safety regulations.
  • Gain hands-on experience with electrical and civil applications, including steel structures, breakers, grounding, protective relaying, and foundation design.

Plan & Analyze: 

  • Partner with member cooperatives, municipalities, contractors, and consultants to scope and deliver projects.
  • Conduct engineering and economic analysis to support project decisions and budgets.
  • Investigate new technologies and apply best practices in substation engineering.

Support & Collaborate: 

  • Provide technical expertise across departments such as ROW, Regulatory, Project Management, and Planning.
  • Assist construction crews, suppliers, and inspectors to resolve field or design issues.
  • Perform site visits, inspections, and testing of substations.
  • Provide effective direction to others in a team-based environment
  • Plan, direct and coordinate the activities of cross-functional teams.

What We’re Looking For 

Education: 

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university required.
  • Other ABET-accredited engineering degrees with specialized substation design experience may be considered.
  • Six years of experience as an Engineer with Texas Registration as a Professional Engineer

Professional Credentials: 

Texas Professional Engineer (PE) license a plus; required for signing/sealing reports and drawings.
