Description

The Maintenance supervisor leads and directs the daily activities of the maintenance employees to ensure all required tasks are completed for the proper care of the cattle.   This individual works on all aspects of maintenance, from ensuring that the pens are in good condition, fencing is in good repair, fresh water is available, to making sure that all equipment is maintained to standards.  This person works very closely with the yard manager and the department supervisors.


Duties and Responsibilities

Essential

  • Lead crew to perform all job duties in a safe and efficient manner and to company standards.
  • Identifies current and future maintenance requirements through communication with yard manager.
  • Assign tasks to crew daily and ensure the proper completion of tasks to company standards.
  • Ensures safe and efficient operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing maintenance requirements for rolling stock including feed trucks, loaders, skid steers and other heavy equipment, and scheduling maintenance and repair. 
  • Direct maintenance activities on water system and tanks to provide a continuous supply of fresh water to cattle.
  • Maintains roads, pens and alleys by filling holes, controlling dust and removing manure.
  • Maintains fencing, structures and gates by repairing damage in a timely manner.
  • Manages supplies to by researching costs, anticipating needs and procuring materials in advance of project work.
  • Coordinate with irrigation department to ensure pasture irrigation schedule is on track and maintain irrigation records.
  • Ensures pasture/paddock fences, water tanks and feed bunks are ready for cattle to meet pasture rotation schedule.
  • Keep the yard in good condition and looking nice.

Marginal

  • Maintain the employee housing and yards.
  • Assist the other crews when needed (Feeding, Cattle, Doctor)
  • Other tasks or duties as required.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bi-lingual English & Spanish
  • Ability to weld. 
  • Valid drivers license and acceptable driving record.
  • Experience with manure management and pen maintenance 
  • Experience with constructing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electric fence.
  • Experience with plumbing repair and pipeline maintenance.
  • Must be able to drive and operate equipment (trucks, loaders, skid steer, road grader, bulldozer, tractors, etc.)
  • Must be responsible and trustworthy.
  • Flexibility to work longer than normal schedule (earlier or later)
  • Excellent safety skills and awareness needed.
  • Must be a team player and get willing cooperation of team.
  • Basic computer and email skills

Typical Physical Requirements

  • Occasional heavy work requiring exerting in excess of 100 pounds with frequent handling of 10lbs to 50lbs 
  • Requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
  • Person subject to both inside & outside weather conditions including extreme cold, heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, oil, and may have to wear a respirator in certain instances
