Position Summary

The Election Protection Organizer supports nonpartisan efforts to safeguard voting rights, promote equitable access to the ballot, and provide Arizona communities with accurate election information. The position focuses on community outreach, base building, leadership development, volunteer coordination, election-protection education, coalition engagement, poll-monitoring support, and election-related rapid response.

Working primarily in Maricopa County and other assigned areas of Arizona, the Organizer recruits and trains community leaders and volunteers, facilitates election-protection workshops, supports polling-place monitoring programs, and represents the organization in approved election-protection coalitions.

The Organizer must remain nonpartisan when conducting voter education, voter assistance, poll monitoring, or election-protection activities. The employee may provide only approved general information and must refer legal questions or reports of potential election violations to authorized election-protection counsel, coalition partners, or organizational leadership.

This is a temporary, full-time position anticipated to run from August 3, 2026, through December 3, 2026, with travel throughout Arizona up to approximately 50% of the time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Build a base of community members committed to protecting voting rights and democratic participation.
• Conduct outreach through canvassing, phone and text banking, digital communications, community events, and one-on-one meetings.
• Recruit, train, coach, schedule, and support community leaders and election-protection volunteers.
• Coordinate and facilitate nonpartisan election-protection workshops and community trainings.
• Provide accurate, approved information concerning voter access, voting options, polling-place procedures, election deadlines, and available assistance.
• Develop and distribute approved election-protection toolkits, presentations, scripts, handouts, and digital content in English and Spanish.
• Support the recruitment, training, scheduling, and assignment of approved poll-monitoring volunteers.
• Coordinate polling-place assignments with authorized coalition partners and organizational staff.
• Confirm that volunteers complete all required training, credentials, and acknowledgments before beginning assigned activities.
• Monitor approved sources for reports of voter intimidation, misinformation, polling-place barriers, accessibility concerns, and other threats to voter access.
• Document reported concerns and refer potential legal violations to authorized election-protection counsel or coalition partners.
• Follow approved rapid-response and safety protocols.
• Refrain from independently investigating suspected crimes, confronting alleged offenders, interfering with election officials, or physically intervening in incidents.
• Build relationships with community organizations, voting-rights groups, election officials, service providers, coalitions, and other stakeholders.
• Represent the organization in the Election Protection Arizona coalition and related meetings when authorized.
• Organize and support town halls, public forums, workshops, advocacy events, and community meetings.
• Collaborate with Communications and program staff to share accurate election-protection information through approved print and digital channels.
• Maintain accurate records of outreach, volunteers, trainings, events, polling-place assignments, reported incidents, referrals, and program results.
• Use EveryAction, VAN, spreadsheets, incident-reporting systems, and other approved tools.
• Protect confidential voter, volunteer, coalition, incident, and organizational information.
• Follow all applicable nonpartisanship, election, polling-place, voter-contact, privacy, data-security, accessibility, safety, and organizational requirements.
• Work regular evenings and weekends and extended or irregular hours when election-related operations require.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least two years of experience in community organizing, advocacy, civic engagement, voting-rights work, or related movement work.
• Experience facilitating workshops, trainings, public meetings, or community events.
• Fluency in English and Spanish, both written and spoken.
• Strong interpersonal, relationship-building, facilitation, and public-speaking skills.
• Ability to communicate election information accurately and in accessible language.
• Ability to learn and apply election-related procedures, policies, and escalation protocols.
• Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment during rapidly changing or high-pressure situations.
• Strong outreach, volunteer-management, relational-organizing, and project-management skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive voter and incident information.
• Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, databases, social media, and mobile communication tools.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, extended hours, and election-style schedules.
• Ability to travel throughout Arizona up to approximately 50% of the time.
• Reliable transportation to assigned meetings, trainings, polling locations, events, and community activities.

Preferred Qualifications

• College coursework or a degree in political science, public policy, law, community development, nonprofit management, or a related field.
• Experience recruiting, training, coordinating, or developing volunteers and community leaders.
• Experience supporting election protection, voter education, voter registration, poll monitoring, or voter-assistance programs.
• Experience working with Latino, immigrant, low-income, working-class, or other historically underrepresented communities.
• Experience working in coalitions or coordinating with multiple community partners.
• Experience with EveryAction, VAN, or comparable civic-engagement platforms.

Additional Requirements

The employee must complete and maintain all training, credentials, appointments, or certifications required for assigned election-protection or poll-monitoring activities.

The employee may not perform duties reserved for attorneys, election officials, credentialed poll observers, or other specifically authorized individuals unless appropriately qualified and authorized.

If driving is assigned, the employee must maintain a valid driver’s license, legally required automobile insurance, an acceptable driving record, and access to a safe and reliable vehicle unless an organizational vehicle is provided.

Physical Requirements

The physical requirements described below are representative of those necessary to perform the position’s essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation:

• Ability to travel frequently throughout Arizona.
• Ability to drive or ride in a vehicle for extended periods when required.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during outreach, trainings, events, and election activities.
• Ability to move throughout offices, meeting venues, polling-location exteriors, event sites, and community locations.
• Ability to operate a computer, mobile devices, and standard office equipment.
• Ability to lift, carry, or move program and event materials weighing up to 25 pounds occasionally.

Work Environment

This position operates in office, remote, field, coalition, event, and community settings throughout Arizona, with a particular emphasis in Maricopa County.

Regular evening and weekend work is required. Extended or irregular hours may also be required during voter-registration deadlines, early voting, Election Day, ballot-curing periods, rapid-response situations, and major public events.

Field work may involve exposure to heat, sun, traffic, crowds, demonstrations, law-enforcement activity, emotionally charged interactions, and other conditions associated with election-protection and community-outreach work.

Compensation and Temporary Assignment

The salary range is $1,923.08–$2,307.69 per biweekly pay period, depending on experience. This is equivalent to an annualized salary range of $50,000–$60,000.

This exempt, temporary, full-time position is anticipated to run from August 3, 2026, through December 3, 2026. The assignment may end earlier or be extended based on funding, operational needs, election-related developments, or applicable law. The anticipated dates do not guarantee employment for any specific duration or continued employment after the assignment concludes.
