Job description

Position Title: Software Architect SR

Clearance: Top Secret Required


Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Solutions Architect to support mission-critical programs in Huntsville. This individual will serve as a technical leader responsible for architecting, implementing, and maintaining scalable cloud and search platform solutions in secure enterprise environments. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Elastic Search/OpenSearch technologies, AWS cloud infrastructure, and distributed systems architecture.

The Senior Solutions Architect will collaborate with engineering, DevOps, cybersecurity, and program teams to design and support highly available, resilient, and secure enterprise solutions supporting operational and analytical mission requirements.


Responsibilities

  • Architect, deploy, configure, and maintain Elastic Search/OpenSearch environments within AWS cloud infrastructures.
  • Design scalable and highly available enterprise search and data indexing solutions.
  • Lead cluster configuration, scaling, tuning, monitoring, backup/recovery, and disaster recovery efforts.
  • Configure and optimize indexing pipelines, shard management, replication, and cluster performance.
  • Monitor system health, troubleshoot production issues, and implement performance improvements across distributed environments.
  • Support restoration activities from cluster backups and maintain operational continuity strategies.
  • Configure and support AWS services including Application Load Balancers (ALB), EC2, storage, networking, and security services.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, cloud teams, and cybersecurity personnel to integrate enterprise applications and data services.
  • Develop architecture documentation, technical roadmaps, operational procedures, and system design artifacts.
  • Support infrastructure modernization initiatives and cloud migration efforts.
  • Implement security best practices including encryption, authentication, access controls, and compliance requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to engineering and operations teams.
  • Participate in technical reviews, architecture discussions, and customer briefings.


Required Qualifications

  • Active Top Secret (TS) security clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 8+ years of overall experience in systems engineering, cloud architecture, infrastructure engineering, or enterprise platform administration.
  • 5–7 years of hands-on experience with Elastic Search and/or OpenSearch technologies.
  • Proven experience standing up, configuring, managing, and optimizing Elastic/OpenSearch clusters in enterprise environments.
  • Experience performing backup restoration, monitoring, indexing optimization, and cluster health management.
  • Strong experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud environments.
  • Experience configuring and supporting AWS Application Load Balancers (ALB).
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, high availability, and scalability principles.
  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving complex infrastructure and application issues.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in fast-paced mission environments.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Java development or supporting Java-based enterprise applications.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code and automation tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, and containerized environments.
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) or Federal Government programs.
  • Knowledge of DevSecOps practices and CI/CD pipeline integration.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Elastic Certified Engineer, Security+, or similar credentials.
