Work EnvironmentUsually works through an online platform or tutoring companyWorks independently or through personal arrangements, often in person
Employer/Industry UsageEmployed by tutoring platforms or educational companiesSelf-employed or hired privately by students or parents
Search & Comparison IntentPeople compare Eight Tutor with private tutoring options for online or structured tutoringIndividuals seeking personalized, in-home, or flexible tutoring services

Eight Tutor typically refers to tutors working through an online platform with structured programs, while private tutors often operate independently or locally. Both roles require subject expertise, but Eight Tutors usually have formal certifications and work within a platform, whereas private tutors may not. The choice depends on whether you prefer a platform-based, structured environment or a personalized, flexible arrangement.

What eight tutors are most in demand?

The most in-demand tutors typically teach core academic subjects such as mathematics, science, English, and foreign languages. Additionally, tutors in test preparation (e.g., SAT, ACT), coding and computer science, music, and special education are highly sought after due to ongoing educational needs and skill development trends.

What is the best tutoring agency to work for?

The best tutoring agency for an Eight Tutor depends on factors such as pay rates, flexibility, support, and subject offerings. Reputable agencies often provide training, resources, and a consistent schedule, making them suitable options for tutors seeking reliable employment. Researching reviews and comparing agency policies can help identify the best fit for individual preferences and qualifications.

Job description

Do you thrive when providing tutoring instruction in a virtual classroom?

Do you successfully maintain virtual student behavior and engagement?

Do you provide students with practice time and guide with supportive corrections?

Do you have time to tutor most weekdays at least one hour between 4 pm to 7 pm ET?

Are you ready to make a positive difference while working 100% from home?

  • BookNook is seeking talented USA based math tutors who are ready to actively participate in the application and onboarding process to be available to support students this coming fall. Please only apply if you're ready to dive into the application steps and keep the momentum going with BookNook.
  • Interested? Please review the full details below and apply with a personal email (rather than a work or school email) to help ensure replies arrive at your inbox successfully.

BookNook tutors support school districts across the United States meeting with students in consistent, recurring weekly sessions. Tutors enjoy a supportive community, the BookNook virtual classroom, and fully provided lesson content-no lesson content prep and planning! This is an exciting opportunity to make a direct, positive impact on students by walking alongside students on their learning journey.

To align with anticipated tutoring days and times, we invite you to apply if your availability often includes at least one hour Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday within the time range of 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM ET (with the potential to claim sessions to tutor outside of this time frame as well). Tutoring opportunities and hours often vary from week to week.

Position Specifics
  • Subject: Math with provided lesson content and practice extension materials.
  • Students: Across the USA, grades K to 8 (choose your grade levels to tutor)
  • Type: 1099-eligible independent contractor
  • Schedule: Follows the school year, September to May, most often 30 minute sessions
  • Pay Rate: $20 per hour ($10 per 30-minute session) with opportunities for incentive payments
  • Total Flexibility: Enjoy ultimate control over your schedule without weekly hours claimed requirements
  • Schedule Consistency: To provide students stable support, tutors attend at least 80% of sessions claimed.
  • Maximize Your Bookings: Our peak student demand falls between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM ET. While tutors are free to set their own hours, availability during this high-volume window is the best way to build your tutoring schedule.
  • Life Happens-We've Got You Covered: We fully respect that you have personal plans and obligations outside of work. Unable to attend a claimed session? Simply drop it on your calendar, and a peer from our collaborative tutor community can claim the session to support your students.

Requirements

  • Experience: Classroom teacher, EL/ESL/ELL, tutoring, coaching, or similar student support, online instruction experience with a college degree preferred.
  • Tutoring Focus: Deliver pre-designed, best-practice math lessons to provide targeted support for students often seeking to improve skills and topics at or below grade level.
  • Rapport: Ability to build meaningful professional connections with students and create an encouraging and motivating learning environment with supportive student corrections.
