Job Summary
The Data Analyst serves as a vital partner in guiding student affairs and enrollment-focused departments toward data-informed decision-making. This role is a key liaison between Student Affairs, Institutional Effectiveness (IE), Information Technology (ITS), the Division of Enrollment and Student Affairs, and the Division of Academic Affairs. The data analyst is responsible for developing and improving processes through data analysis and visualization. The data analyst collects and analyzes institutional data from various sources to identify trends in student performance, retention, and graduation. Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President for Access, Success, and Belonging, the data analyst is responsible for creating and maintaining a variety of deliverables, including dashboards and reports, for both SEM units and senior leadership. A core responsibility is promoting data literacy by training stakeholders and communicating actionable insights and recommendations at key leadership meetings. The analyst collaborates closely with ITS and IE to ensure data accuracy, compliance with governance standards, and overall process efficiency.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
DATA COLLECTION AND MANAGEMENT: Gather and support the governance of data from various sources, such as student engagement platforms, student information systems, and surveys, to track student performance and success metrics. Collaborate with IE to ensure analytics tools are compliant with institutional data governance, regarding user access within business intelligence environments. Partner with respective Data Steward(s) and Data Governance Coordinator in IE to validate and document data deliverables (e.g., dashboards) within the Data Cookbook, ensuring data accuracy and compliance with AU's data governance framework. Collaborate with IE to ensure that analytics tools follow institutional data design standards and are included and up-to-date on AU's Analytics Roadmap. Collaborate with IT to improve data integrity and availability within business intelligence solutions sourced from data warehousing.
DATA ANALYSIS: Apply statistical and analytical techniques to identify trends, patterns, and key factors related to student success, retention, and graduation rates. Analyze data against research questions/hypotheses and use critical-thinking skills to develop the most appropriate methodologies and solutions. Conduct exploratory analyses on data to find actionable insights using appropriate methodologies.
REPORTING AND VISUALIZATION: Create reports, dashboards, and visualizations to present data findings in a clear and concise manner, enabling stakeholders to make data-driven decisions. Develop dashboards, queries, and data analyses for the SEM unit to improve their business processes and operations. Analyze unit-specific, institutional, and external data to develop deliverables for senior leadership, allowing them to track SEM performance. Updates data deliverables on a regular schedule. Responds to assigned ad-hoc requests via the Institutional Data Request process.
DATA INTERPRETATION AND ACTIONABLE INSIGHTS: Translate data into actionable insights that inform student affairs programs, interventions, and policies. Analyze, interpret, and summarize data that deliver actionable insights and empower decision-makers to achieve goals outlined in the SEM Plan.
COLLABORATION AND COMMUNICATION: Work with faculty, staff, and administrators to understand their data needs and communicate findings effectively. Promote data literacy by training SEM units and their immediate stakeholders, such as Directors, to interpret data deliverables and provide guidance on new and updated dashboards, analyses, and queries to ensure they can effectively use the information. Promote data literacy by communicating actionable recommendations and key insights from senior leadership data deliverables at cyclical leadership meetings such as the President's Cabinet, Lead Team, and the Directors' Meetings. Communicate data availability and updates from respective SEM units to the AU Data Community to promote awareness and support the SEM Plan goals. Summarize and communicate results effectively in a variety of formats, including executive summaries, reports, dashboards, and data visualizations.
PROCESS IMPROVEMENT: Identify areas for improvement in data collection, analysis, and reporting processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Collaborate with the respective unit's SIS Functional Analyst to promote data accuracy, user access, and coordinate data collection needed for data deliverables (e.g., dashboards, analyses, reports, slide decks). The Data Analyst is not expected to work directly in the data system (e.g., Banner, Slate) as the SIS Functional Analyst.
MAINTAIN AWARENESS OF DATA PRACTICES AND TRENDS : Stay informed of emerging technologies, methodologies, and best practices in higher education analytics, ensuring Augusta University remains at the forefront of data-driven student success strategies.
OTHER : Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of experience in data analytics, information systems, institutional research, or other directly related field to include higher education functional units.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field of study. Experience in higher education, project management, and advanced analytics. Experience using predictive modeling and sentiment analysis. Experience working with statistical and survey software.

Salary: $62,300/annually-$66,030/annually
