Job Description

The College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences is seeking a passionate visual storyteller to join its marketing and communications team. This position will capture, produce, and edit videos and still photos of the college's activities and people for internal and external audiences.
They will fulfill daily video and photo assignments that support and enhance the college's branding, campaigns, and editorial needs, targeting and engaging a wide spectrum of audiences, from prospective and current students to alumni and donors, industry partners, and the general public.
Projects may include news-style videos, videos made specifically for social media sharing, photography for print and digital projects (including social media and web), event coverage in a variety of settings, and faculty and staff headshot sessions. The photographer/videographer will repurpose content for various platforms as needed (e.g., aspect ratios for social media channels, file size, etc.). Assignments will most likely occur concurrently and may often move from idea to completion in the same day.
The visual content creator is expected to be enterprising and develop ideas for video and photo content independently, as well as with the marketing and communications team, taking on assignments as asked. The successful candidate must have the ability to meet short term and long-term deadlines.
They will oversee the college's YouTube presence and assist the social media manager in the creation of reels or repurposing content to engage a variety of audiences on numerous social media platforms. The visual content creator will work in the college's content management system as well. 
The visual content creator will manage and maintain the college's photo library and related storage software, ensuring that all visual content is tagged and stored appropriately.
The ideal candidate will have academic and/or professional experience as a videographer, a video producer, or a similar role, working in a dynamic, high-energy agency or educational setting. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work independently and work on multiple deadline-driven projects simultaneously. Occasional work on nights and weekends is required. Some assignments may involve travel outside of Blacksburg.
The visual content creator reports to the director of marketing and communications for the college. The team is positioned within the college's Advancement division and based at Virginia Tech's campus in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in video or film production, visual communications, journalism, new media, fine arts, or equivalent work and/or academic experience
Demonstrated experience as a photographer, videographer, or digital content expert, who thrives in a dynamic, high-energy higher education environment.
Portfolio that demonstrates deep knowledge of photography, videography and editing
Experience working independently and as a team, multitasking, and working on multiple deadline-driven projects simultaneously and meeting deadlines.
Demonstrated experience producing written and visual content (video, photos, graphics) for social media and/or other digital platforms.
Demonstrated experience executing and planning creative campaigns.
Familiarity and demonstrated use/experience with industry social media trends and best practices, especially YouTube.
Knowledge of Virginia Tech or higher education setting.
Ability to juggle multiple deadlines, quick turnarounds, and work in a fast-paced environment.
Experience collaborating with internal and external teams and stakeholders.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite or other video editing platforms.
