Job Summary
The Educational Coach will participate in the development, coordination, and implementation of initiatives to support the Project HIGHER Manager in monitoring and following-up with Project HIGHER students on their academic progress. They will provide one-on-one guidance, encourage planning, organization study strategies, and time management skills to complete a level-one certificate at El Paso Community College. In-person work on campus is an essential function of this position.
Essential Functions
Provide one-on-one assistance and support to students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to ensure successful completion of educational goals. Assist in the development and implementation of retention initiatives by providing specialized support. Assist students with maintaining a positive academic environment, understand themselves as learners, develop a study schedule, establish rapport with professors, and become familiar with the college environment.
Advise and provide guidance to ensure students are properly prepared to meet class and lab requirements, such as assignments, quizzes, exams, and special class projects.
Assist, guide, and promote student self-advocacy, promote independence, communication to include social skills, problem-solving, decision making, organizational and planning skills.
Teach and encourage students to plan, organize, develop study strategies, and time management skills needed to successfully transition to college, foster retention, and complete a level one certificate.
Assist and work collaboratively with Program Manager, counselors, instructors, tutors, and lab staff to identify strategies that will support the educational needs of students with IDD.
Assist in the development and implementation of retention initiatives by working with the Program Manager to provide timely feedback to students about their academic progress.
Assist the Program Manager in carrying out activities that support the mission of the Project HIGHER program, such as accessing various college services, including college support services, financial aid, career services, on and off-campus referrals.
Review educational progress to include current grades and assignments, attempt to resolve any barriers that might impede the students' progress and success.
Ensure the students meet with the Center for Students with Disabilities counselors and students understand and apply for accommodations and counseling services and learn the use of assistive technology; explain and interpret policies and procedures that pertain to student academic retention and degree completion.
Document students' performance, status, and progress on written reports. Create and maintain a record retention system for documentation and follow-up.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
1. Associate's Degree and three (3) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
NOTE: A copy of the transcript reflecting this required education MUST be submitted for consideration and reflect completed coursework and degrees conferred. The candidate must be fully qualified for the position at the time of application.
2. Effective communication skills (oral and written).
3. Ability to maintain and foster strong relationships with state agencies and local educational institutions.
4. Knowledge of regulations established by the State and policies and procedures of HIGHER education.
5. Ability to keep abreast of trends and best practices regarding student retention.
6. Ability to generate reports and presentations.
Special Conditions:
1. This is a security-sensitive position as defined under the Texas Education Code, Section 51.215; the successful applicant will be required to undergo a criminal background check, as permitted and/or required by applicable law, and in accordance with the College's policies and procedures.
2. Must possess a valid driver's license.
3. Must be insurable by district's liability carrier.
4. The El Paso Community College is building a pool of Applicants for part-time staff positions. This pool will be accessed when an opening arises. Your application will remain active for approximately one (1) year from July 2026 to June 2027. After this time, you will need to re-apply if you are still interested in remaining a part of the pool.

Copies of transcripts must reflect completed coursework and conferred degrees. All academic coursework and degrees must be from an accredited college or university or be certified by an acceptable agency that the institution is recognized by the appropriate governmental agency in its home country (this is generally stated in the degree evaluation).
Transcripts issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a full translation (word for word) by a current member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). Additionally, each foreign transcript must be evaluated for equivalency to United States accredited coursework.
Applications containing foreign transcripts that are not accompanied with the above required documentation will not be considered.
