Position Summary Job Description: The Department of Education at York College of Pennsylvania invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Special Education to teach in our PK-12 teacher preparation programs, beginning August 2027. The Department of Education is a vibrant academic community composed of dedicated full-time and part-time faculty and a robust Field Services Division. All of the faculty are committed to the professional development of the next generation of educators.

With its small class sizes and high faculty-student engagement, the department provides a personal, student-centered environment that prioritizes excellence in pedagogy and mentorship. Our educational model is rooted in a practical, experiential approach where students bridge theory and practice through intensive, hands-on learning. Both the faculty and students benefit from strong, long-standing partnerships with regional school districts in and around York, Pennsylvania.

Multiple field placements allow preservice teachers to develop the skills and tools necessary to support students across a wide range of disabilities in diverse PK-12 settings. Furthermore, faculty actively engage in professional development and collaborative scholarship that values innovation within the field of special education. We seek an experienced, collaborative, and motivated educator-scholar with deep expertise in Special Education.

The successful candidate will join a collegial and forward-thinking department that values applied, field-based learning, meaningful community engagement, and the success of every student. Outcome: The selected candidate will successfully engage in teaching and advising as needed at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, participate in sustained college service, and maintain an active research agenda which results in publication and presentation. Essential Functions Develop and deliver high-quality instruction aligned with Pennsylvania Department of Education mandated competencies at both the undergraduate and/or graduate level as assigned Prepare course materials including syllabi, assignments, assessments, aligned with pedagogical best practices and which support expected teacher development in the area of special education Provide timely and constructive feedback on student work and maintain accurate student records and grades Foster in an inclusive and engaging learning environment that supports student success Advise and mentor students at both the undergraduate and/or graduate level as assigned Support students' academic, personal, and professional development Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with departmental colleagues to advance preservice teacher development Engage in professional activities commensurate with the mission and values of York College and aligned with areas of expertise Serve the college and department through sustained participation in activities and outreach aligned with the mission and values of York College Experience and Education Required Earned Ph.D

in Education, Special Education, or a closely related field is preferred; ABD will be considered. Candidate will have a record of successful teaching at the college level Three or more years experience teaching in-person special education in a K- 12 public/private school setting. Must have an active certification to teach special education or have the ability to obtain certification to teach special education in Pennsylvania.

Required Skills and Qualifications Successful candidates will demonstrate effective communication skills and a strong body of knowledge of special education resulting from classroom teaching experience, as well as be able to work collaboratively with colleagues to support teacher development. Furthermore, candidates invited for on-campus interviews will be expected to deliver both a successful teaching demonstration and research presentation.
