Job Overview
Under the direction of the Education and Training Services Center (ETSC), the Education Advisor serves as the primary point of contact for all matters pertaining to voluntary off-duty education programs, academic counseling, and educational support services. Responsible for advising active-duty Air Force (AF) and Space Force (USSF) personnel on educational opportunities, managing student records, and coordinating administrative support for all education-related programs and activities.
Salary Range: $80,000 - $95,000 USD
Work Model: Onsite
Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
  • Advises active-duty AF personnel on all programs available through voluntary off-duty education, the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF), Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES), AF Institute of Advanced Distributive Learning (AFIADL), officer accession programs, and other educational support programs as required by the ETSC. Keeps the ETS current on all program and catalog changes and advises affected students promptly.
  • Advises personnel of Professional Military Education (SNCOA, SOS, AFIT, ACSC, AWC) programs available for enlisted and officer personnel and assists them in registering for appropriate programs.
  • Provides information regarding Air Force tuition assistance, VA education benefits, federal financial assistance programs, local scholarships, and Air Force Aid Society grants to all eligible personnel. Assists students with completion of all applicable forms/applications. Processes AF TA forms via the Air Force Automated Education Management System (AFAEMS) program.
  • Refers students to the appropriate academic institution representative for registration and enrollment in courses or programs that pertain to their education goals.
  • Advises students of DANTES tests that are applicable to their programs of study. Interprets pre-tests and non-timed interest and placement tests as appropriate to the individual counseling process.
  • Updates student records in AFAEMS.
  • Conducts follow-up activities (phone calls, mail-outs, emails) to ensure individual student educational objectives are being met.
  • Responsible for preparing all necessary correspondence and forms and maintains related records and logs required to support all aspects of job tasks. Also maintains statistical data as required by the ETSC and assists with reports and other administrative tasks as requested by the ETSC.
  • Assists with annual CCAF graduation ceremonies. May include providing ETSC with detailed timeline of graduation-related activities at least 3 months in advance of graduation dates. Updates via email up to the day of the ceremony. Performs administrative follow-up including thank you letters and an after-action report.
  • Uses the Air Force Automated Education Management System (AFAEMS) to maintain individual student records.
  • Works the front desk with walk-in and phone customers.
  • Assists with maintaining the Education web site.
  • Assists the ETSC with the necessary logistics (classrooms, material support, etc.) to conduct on-base training/education classes.
  • Assists with accounting spreadsheet entries, TA form verifications, publicity materials survey collection and compilation, filing, and other program-related administrative work as needed.
  • Performs all other work-related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
Mandatory:
  • Master's degree in Education, or a Bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in Counseling, Secondary Education, or a related discipline from a regionally accredited American university.
  • Minimum of one year's experience in an appropriate related professional field.
  • Knowledge of educational programs for USAF and USSF personnel and DANTES tests.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word and other Microsoft Office software.
  • Knowledge of administering and interpreting non-timed interest and placement tests.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels.
  • U.S. Citizen or legal resident alien.
  • Ability to pass a background investigation.

Preferred:
  • Prior experience working with military education programs, AFAEMS, or equivalent education management systems.
  • Familiarity with Air Force and Space Force training policies, directives, and reporting requirements.
  • Experience with DANTES testing administration and interpretation.
  • Knowledge of financial aid programs, VA education benefits, and scholarship resources.
