Edm Developer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an EDM Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an EDM Developer, you need expertise in data modeling, ETL processes, and a solid understanding of enterprise data management concepts, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with EDM platforms (like Informatica or IBM InfoSphere), SQL, and data integration tools, as well as relevant certifications, is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and effective communication are important soft skills for collaborating with stakeholders and translating business requirements into technical solutions. These skills ensure accurate and efficient data management, supporting business intelligence and decision-making within the organization.

What are some common challenges EDM Developers face when integrating enterprise data across multiple systems?

EDM Developers often encounter challenges such as ensuring data consistency and quality when integrating information from various, sometimes incompatible, source systems. They must address issues like data duplication, differing data formats, and latency in data synchronization. Collaboration with business analysts, database administrators, and other IT teams is crucial to define data governance rules and resolve conflicts quickly. Staying up-to-date with evolving data integration tools and best practices is also key to overcoming these challenges and delivering reliable data solutions.

What is an EDM Developer?

An EDM Developer is a software professional who specializes in developing, implementing, and maintaining Enterprise Data Management (EDM) systems. These systems help organizations manage, store, and analyze large volumes of data efficiently and securely. EDM Developers work with various data integration tools, databases, and programming languages to ensure data quality, consistency, and accessibility across the organization. They often collaborate with data analysts, architects, and business stakeholders to align data solutions with business needs.

What is the difference between Edm Developer vs Data Warehouse Developer?

Job description

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented EDM Operator to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up, programming, and operating sinker style Electrical Discharge Machinines to produce high-precision metal parts and components.

The ideal candidate possesses strong technical aptitude, a deep understanding of manufacturing blueprints, and a commitment to maintaining tight tolerances and rigorous quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Machine Setup & Operation: Set up and operate Sinker EDM machines according to strict engineering specifications.
  • Programming & Editing: Load, review, and edit CNC programs (G-code) at the machine control panel to optimize cutting paths, feed rates, and machine settings.
  • Blueprint Reading: Interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD/CAM models to determine part dimensions, tolerances, and operational sequences.
  • Quality Control: Perform regular in-process inspections using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and CMM) to ensure parts meet tolerances often as tight as 0.0001 inches.
  • Tooling & Maintenance: Make custom tooling using a tool grinder to fit job needs. Perform routine machine maintenance, including fluid changes, filter replacements, and cleaning.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve machining issues or program errors to minimize downtime and scrap material.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate logs of production time, inspection results, and maintenance activities.

Qualifications and Skills

Required:

  • Experience: Experience operating Sinker EDM machinery in a precision machining or tool-and-die environment.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in reading blueprints and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Measurement: Strong competency with standard precision inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges).
  • Math Skills: Solid understanding of basic shop math, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to consistently work with extremely tight tolerances and high-value materials.
