What is an EDM Developer?

An EDM Developer is a software professional who specializes in developing, implementing, and maintaining Enterprise Data Management (EDM) systems. These systems help organizations manage, store, and analyze large volumes of data efficiently and securely. EDM Developers work with various data integration tools, databases, and programming languages to ensure data quality, consistency, and accessibility across the organization. They often collaborate with data analysts, architects, and business stakeholders to align data solutions with business needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an EDM Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an EDM Developer, you need expertise in data modeling, ETL processes, and a solid understanding of enterprise data management concepts, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with EDM platforms (like Informatica or IBM InfoSphere), SQL, and data integration tools, as well as relevant certifications, is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and effective communication are important soft skills for collaborating with stakeholders and translating business requirements into technical solutions. These skills ensure accurate and efficient data management, supporting business intelligence and decision-making within the organization.

What is the difference between Edm Developer vs Data Warehouse Developer?

AspectEdm DeveloperData Warehouse Developer
CredentialsSQL, XML, JSON, ETL toolsSQL, ETL tools, data modeling certifications
Work EnvironmentData integration, metadata management, enterprise data systemsData storage, schema design, reporting systems
Industry UsageBusiness intelligence, data integration projectsData warehousing, analytics, reporting
Common Search/ComparisonOften compared for data management rolesRelated but focuses more on data storage architecture

Edm Developers primarily focus on managing metadata and data integration within enterprise systems, while Data Warehouse Developers design and build data storage solutions for analytics. Both roles require SQL and ETL skills, but their core responsibilities differ in scope and focus.

What are some common challenges EDM Developers face when integrating enterprise data across multiple systems?

EDM Developers often encounter challenges such as ensuring data consistency and quality when integrating information from various, sometimes incompatible, source systems. They must address issues like data duplication, differing data formats, and latency in data synchronization. Collaboration with business analysts, database administrators, and other IT teams is crucial to define data governance rules and resolve conflicts quickly. Staying up-to-date with evolving data integration tools and best practices is also key to overcoming these challenges and delivering reliable data solutions.

Job description

Senior CNC 5-Axis Machinist / Setup Operator

Systomatic Inc. | Union City, CA | Full-Time | Day Shift

Systomatic Inc. is a precision aerospace machine shop specializing in complex multi-axis components for aerospace, defense, and high-technology industries.

We operate a modern facility equipped with multiple 5-axis machines, CNC lathes, and EDM, producing tight-tolerance parts that require advanced machining strategies and attention to detail.

We are looking for a highly skilled CNC machinist with strong 5-axis experience who enjoys solving challenging machining problems and working on precision components.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to own setups, improve processes, and work on sophisticated parts rather than repetitive production work.

What You’ll Work With

Our shop runs modern high-precision equipment including:

• Multiple Matsuura 5-axis machining centers
• Haas VF-2 (30k spindle) with trunnion
• Haas UMC-1250 machines
• CNC turning centers (Haas ST series)
• Wire and sinker EDM
• High-precision inspection equipment and CMM systems

You’ll be machining complex aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, and specialty materials with tight tolerances for aerospace applications.

Responsibilities

• Setup and operate 5-axis CNC milling machines
• Machine complex precision parts with tight tolerances
• Interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T
• Optimize tooling, fixturing, and machining strategies
• Perform in-process inspections using precision measurement tools
• Collaborate with programmers and engineers to improve machining efficiency
• Maintain clean, organized setups and workspaces

Requirements

5+ years CNC machining experience in a professional shop
Hands-on 5-axis machining experience strongly preferred
• Strong ability to read prints and understand GD&T
• Experience holding tight tolerances on aerospace components
• Comfortable working independently on setups and problem solving
• Must have own machinist tools

Preferred Experience

• CAM experience (Mastercam, Fusion 360, or similar)
• Experience with multi-axis fixturing and complex setups
• CMM inspection experience
• Experience machining prototype and short-run parts
