Job description

PERSPECTIVES EDITOR

Ballantine Communications, Inc. (BCI) Ballantine Communications, Inc., publisher of The Durango Herald, The Journal and Tri-City Record, is seeking a full-time Perspectives Editor to lead community commentary and opinion journalism across Southwest Colorado and Northwest New Mexico. The Perspectives Editor will curate and edit guest columns, syndicated commentary, editorial cartoons and letters to the editor; recruit and facilitate a diverse BCI Editorial Board; develop balanced Point/Counterpoint features; write editorials on complex regional issues; and cultivate community contributors representing a broad range of perspectives.

Qualifications: Strong editorial, line-editing and AP style skills; excellent writing ability; experience facilitating groups or bringing diverse stakeholders together; commitment to objective presentation of opposing viewpoints; and ability to build relationships throughout the Four Corners. Journalism experience and familiarity with the region preferred; Spanish and audience analytics experience a plus.

Location: Durango, CO, with regional travel. Valid drivers license and reliable transportation required. Some evening/weekend availability necessary.

Salary: $57,000$75,000 annually, plus comprehensive BCI benefits.
