Job description

The Georgia Public Health Association (GPHA) invites applications and nominations for the position of Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Georgia Public Health Association (JGPHA). This leadership role offers a unique opportunity to shape the intellectual direction of a peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to advancing public health research, policy, and practice in Georgia and beyond.

About the Journal

The Journal of the Georgia Public Health Association (JGPHA) serves as a scholarly and practice-oriented platform for disseminating high-quality public health research, evaluation, policy analysis, and practice innovations. The journal reflects GPHA’s mission to improve population health and advance health equity through evidence-informed action.

JGPHA prioritizes manuscripts that:

  • Advance health equity, social justice, and population health
  • Integrate research, practice, and policy
  • Elevate community‑engaged and participatory approaches
  • Address pressing public health challenges across urban, rural, and underserved communities
Editorial Vision

JGPHA emphasizes equitable academic–community partnerships, methodological rigor, ethical research practices, and real‑world public health impact. The journal welcomes submissions from researchers, practitioners, policymakers, community partners, and students.

Role and Responsibilities

The Editor-in-Chief provides strategic, intellectual, and operational leadership for JGPHA and is responsible for:

  • Setting and advancing the journal’s editorial vision and strategic direction
  • Overseeing a rigorous, fair, and timely peer‑review process
  • Recruiting and leading a diverse Editorial Board
  • Promoting high‑quality submissions, including special issues aligned with emerging public health priorities
  • Ensuring adherence to ethical standards in scholarly publishing
  • Collaborating with GPHA leadership to expand the journal’s visibility, reach, and impact
  • Supporting early‑career scholars, practitioners, and community partners in scholarly dissemination
Qualifications

Qualified candidates will demonstrate:

  • A terminal degree in public health or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
  • A strong record of public health scholarship and/or practice
  • Experience with peer review, scholarly publishing, or editorial leadership
  • A commitment to health equity, community engagement, and applied public health
  • Collaborative leadership across academic, practice, and community settings
Term

The Editor-in-Chief is appointed for a renewable three‑year term and is supported by an editorial team (included Associate Editors and Board) and GPHA infrastructure.

Application Process

Applicants should submit:

  • A letter of interest describing their editorial vision and alignment with JGPHA’s mission
  • A curriculum vitae highlighting relevant experience

Nominations are also welcome and should include a brief statement of support and the nominee’s CV.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until March 13, 2026.
