Curriculum and Instruction Office
Work schedule, compensation, and duration of the assignment will be established by the district. This is a temporary, part-time position intended to provide additional support to the Curriculum and Instruction Office and district staff.
SUMMARY
The K12 Curriculum and Instruction Specialist will support the Curriculum and Instruction Office in strengthening high-quality teaching and learning across the district. The specialist will provide ongoing, non-evaluative support to teachers, mentor new teachers, facilitate professional learning, and assist with the implementation of district curriculum, instructional practices, assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.












The successful candidate will be an experienced educational leader with a strong background in curriculum, instruction, professional development, and school improvement.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES




  1. Mentor and support new teachers as they transition into the district.
  2. Provide ongoing, non-evaluative instructional support to K12 teachers.
  3. Assist teachers with implementing district curriculum and instructional initiatives.
  4. Provide professional development on research-based instructional practices, effective lesson design, assessment, and student-centered learning.
  5. Facilitate collaborative planning, professional learning communities, and other professional learning opportunities.
  6. Support teachers in reviewing student achievement data and using the results to inform instructional decisions.
  7. Assist with districtwide curriculum review, development, alignment, and implementation.
  8. Develop instructional resources, guidance documents, and implementation tools for teachers and administrators.
  9. Conduct classroom observations for the purpose of providing instructional support and feedback, not formal evaluation.
  10. Support the implementation of district assessment systems and instructional improvement efforts.
  11. Collaborate with Instructional Coaches, teachers, building administrators, and members of the Curriculum and Instruction Office.
  12. Research and communicate current best practices related to curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning.
  13. Assist the Curriculum and Instruction Office with special projects and districtwide instructional initiatives.
  14. Perform other curriculum and instructional duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Valid or previously held Michigan teaching certificate.
  2. Master's degree in education, curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, or a related field.
  3. Previous experience as a teacher and school or district administrator.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of K12 curriculum, instruction, assessment, and school improvement.
  5. Experience mentoring, coaching, or supporting teachers.
  6. Experience planning and facilitating professional development.
  7. Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  8. Ability to develop positive and productive relationships with teachers and administrators.
  9. Ability to maintain confidentiality and provide supportive, non-evaluative feedback.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Previous experience as a building-level or district-level administrator.
  2. Experience supporting curriculum and instruction across multiple grade levels.
  3. Knowledge of instructional coaching, new-teacher mentoring, professional learning communities, and data-informed instruction.
  4. Familiarity with Michigan academic standards, assessment requirements, and current educational initiatives.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.ย Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.ย  Ability to effectively present information to administrators, public groups/community, and board of education.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.ย  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field.ย  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.ย  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.ย  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
