Position Overview

Family Houston is seeking a compassionate, relationship-driven Economic Opportunity Specialist to empower individuals, youth, and families to achieve long-term economic stability through financial coaching, employment services, resource navigation, and comprehensive support services.


Key Responsibilities

Financial & Employment Coaching  

  • Provide individualized financial and employment coaching, develop action plans, and monitor participant progress toward financial and career goals.
  • Assist participants with budgeting, credit improvement, debt management, savings, asset building, and financial goal setting.
  • Provide career exploration, resume development, interview preparation, job search assistance, employment retention, and career advancement coaching.
  • Support youth and young adults in accessing education, vocational training, internships, apprenticeships, and career opportunities.
  • Empower participants to increase income, build financial capability, and achieve long-term economic mobility through coaching, education, and resource coordination.  

Participant Support & Resource Navigation  

  • Conduct assessments, develop individualized service plans, and provide ongoing coaching and case management to promote economic stability and self-sufficiency.
  • Assist participants in accessing public benefits and community resources, including SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, Harris Health Gold Card, housing, food assistance, healthcare, transportation, and other supportive services.
  • Coordinate referrals to internal and external partners and follow up to ensure participants successfully access services.
  • Case Management and Family Support

Community Engagement & Partnerships  

  • Represent Family Houston through community outreach, workshops, resource fairs, employer engagement, and partner meetings to recruit participants and strengthen community partnerships.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with employers, schools, workforce organizations, financial institutions, and community partners.
  • Facilitate financial education, career readiness, and workforce development workshops and presentations.  

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential participant records, including assessments, service plans, case notes, referrals, and required documentation.
  • Track participant outcomes and ensure compliance with agency policies, grant requirements, and program standards.
  • Protect participant confidentiality and maintain data integrity.

Team Collaboration

  • Collaborate with internal departments and community partners to provide coordinated services.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education

Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Business, Finance, Education, Psychology, Public Administration, or a related field preferred. Equivalent education and relevant experience will be considered.


Experience
  • Experience in financial coaching, employment coaching, workforce development, case management, community outreach, benefits navigation, or human services preferred.
  • Experience working with youth and young adults (ages 14-24) in workforce development, education, mentoring, career readiness, or human services preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and individuals facing economic barriers.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of personal finance, workforce development, community resources, and public benefits.
  • Strong understanding of strengths-based and trauma-informed service delivery.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and coaching skills with the ability to engage and motivate youth, adults, and families.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Experience using electronic case management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

Language Requirement

Fluency in English and Spanish is required.


Work Environment

This position may be assigned to a Family Houston office or a partner agency based on program needs. Services are provided throughout the community, including schools, community centers, employer locations, and other designated service sites.
 

Regular local travel within the Greater Houston area is required. A valid Texas driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of automobile insurance are required.
 

Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required to support outreach activities, workshops, community events, and other organizational initiatives.


Compensation & Benefits

This is an hourly non-exempt role with an hourly range of $25 - $27/ per hour, commensurate with skills and relevant experience.
