The Institute for International Economic Policy serves as a catalyst for high-quality, nonpartisan, multidisciplinary research on policy issues surrounding the global economy. IIEP connects a network of 60+ interdisciplinary faculty and visiting scholars with students, policymakers, private-sector leaders, and 30+ Executive Circle ESIA Alumni. The Institute advances GW's engagement in the global economic arena through research, events, conferences, and external partnerships, including deep ties with the World Bank. IIEP also supports student professional development through paid research assistantships, staff positions, fellowships, and networking opportunities.
Position Specific Summary
RA III is a more advanced research role intended for candidates with stronger prior research experience and the ability to take on complex assignments with a high degree of independence. RA IIIs are expected to manage research tasks with limited day-to-day oversight, communicate proactively with faculty supervisors and Institute staff, meet deadlines, take ownership of assigned work, and understand how their work fits within the broader literature and goals of the project.

RA III will work for the Institute and be assigned to faculty research projects as needs arise, based on the RA's skills, experience, and project fit. Assignments may involve advanced qualitative or quantitative research, literature reviews, data collection, data cleaning, data analysis, coding, writing support, policy research, or other research-related tasks. Because RAs support active faculty research agendas, candidates should be prepared to contribute across a range of topics and project types, including projects outside their primary academic interests. Successful RAs will be highly responsible, intellectually curious, organized, and able to work independently.
Standard Position Description
The student will perform administrative and research tasks under general supervision by a faculty member or research coordinator. Tasks may include: contribute to peer reviewed research and write research memos of findings, assist with presentations, supervision and training of other student staff, write and run statistical programs to analysis data. Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific departmental/faculty needs.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have very strong upper-level or graduate coursework in a related field, significant experience with Excel, GIS, SAS, Stata, EViews, R, Python, or other research/data tools, and prior independent research experience.
