What types of projects and tasks can an Economic Consulting Intern expect to work on during their internship?

As an Economic Consulting Intern, you can expect to support project teams by conducting data analysis, performing research, and assisting with the preparation of reports and presentations for clients. Typical tasks include collecting and cleaning economic or financial data, building models in Excel or statistical software, and summarizing findings for senior consultants. Interns often collaborate closely with analysts and consultants, gaining exposure to a range of industries such as finance, healthcare, and antitrust. This role provides a chance to develop both technical and communication skills while working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Economic Consulting Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Economic Consulting Intern, you need strong analytical skills, quantitative coursework in economics or related fields, and proficiency in data analysis. Familiarity with statistical software such as Stata, R, or Excel, along with coursework or internships in economic research, are commonly expected. Exceptional communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities help interns stand out when presenting findings and collaborating with clients and colleagues. These skills ensure that interns can effectively analyze complex data, support client projects, and contribute valuable insights in a fast-paced consulting environment.

What does an Economic Consulting Intern do?

Typical tasks include conducting research, building financial models, preparing reports, and supporting litigation or regulatory cases. Interns often work with large data sets, use statistical software, and contribute to presentations or client deliverables. This role provides valuable exposure to both economic theory and real-world business applications, making it a great learning opportunity for students interested in economics or consulting.
